UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - You never know who you might run into at the United Nations.

President George W. Bush found that out on Tuesday with a chance encounter with his predecessor, Bill Clinton.

Bush clapped his arm over Clinton's shoulders and pulled Iraqi President Jalal Talibani over for a three-way chat.

"It was unplanned, unexpected. When you see another president standing nearby, the proper thing to do is to go over and say 'hi'," said White House spokesman Tony Snow.

That was no "chance encounter".

Bill Clinton knows what the hall looks like (with all the security, staff and reporter buzz) when the President is about to walk by. Obviouly he chose to stalk President Bush, desperately hoping for a "chance encounter" so that maybe just maybe a tiny little piece of Bush's awesome legacy would rub off on him.

An event with live cameras and free food? Hell, yeah, Clinton's going to be there.

"Bush's awesome legacy "

You have got to be kidding! His legacy is a big spending, big government, liberal. He made "his brother" Clinton's spending look conservative in comparison. His free drug program alone is going to balloon the federal debt into the multi billions.

Either you got on the wrong bus, or the sun never shines where you live.

BTW: No matter how much you try to push him, McCain will NOT get the Republican nomination.

I know Clinton is a former President, but what business does he have at the UN?

He is not an ambassador, or a member of the current administration, so where was he sitting? Are there bleachers at the UN?

I would think the only way he would have been there would be to come as a guest of someone. Obviously if he were a guest of our amabassador, then there are no "chance encounters".

Hmmmm... with the "sinkmaster" I couldn't help thinking it was a different type of "chance encounter".

"You could knock first, George!"

I'm most certain in this encounter that Bush never asked Clinton ...how's the wife?

At what point does Bill Clinton's shadowing of the legitemate government of the United States constitute a Shadow Government? I'm more than a little tired of the Clinton adminstration's refusal to go away.
IMO, the biggest failure of the Bush administration was the failure to de-Clintonize Washington, D.C. The spiteful and malicious damage done by Clinton-era hangers-on is taking a toll on the current administration.
W tried to take the high road by not attacking Clinton and the Clintonistas for their failures and evil; now they feel empowered to continue.
If the Democrats hunger to hear this President admit mistakes, he could do worse than starting with his mistakes in not rooting out the Clintonian influence in Washington.
The same dirty tricks a Republican President was impeached for and resigned for are now defended by the New York Times when committed by Democrats.
And while I'm at it, what part of the SWIFT database "FOLLOW THE MONEY" terrorist finance tracking program do the Democrats object to? The successful part.

"Congress spends."

The President has a veto pen that is rather dusty.
