IRAQ POLL:
Kurds Grateful for U.S. Support
A delegation of Iraqi Kurdish officials is currently traveling through the United States right now. The mission is to build upon the great friendship between the Kurdish people and the United States of America.
Most specifically, the people of Iraqi Kurdistan wish to invite American businesses to come and help invest in the rebuilding of Kurdistan. It's a win for the people of Iraqi Kurdistan to have help in building a brighter future, and it's a win for American businesses seeking promising new opportunities.
We have launched an advertising campaign called "The Other Iraq" because there is a story to be told about Iraqi Kurdistan that most Americans have not heard. We hope you've taken a moment to watch not just our television ads - but the documentaries that tell the full story at http://www.TheOtherIraq.com
In fact, a poll taken earlier this year provided results that will likely surprise you. We hope you will review these results, and share them with others. And if possible, we'd like to hear from you about your feedback on our public relations campaign for "The Other Iraq" in the U.S.
If you, or someone you know of, can help play a role in the rebuilding of our region's future, or wish to learn more information on investment or business opportunities, please email us at: info@theotheriraq.com
The following poll was conducted by WorldPublicOpinion.org and their Program on International Policy Attitudes. The poll was fielded by KA Research Limited/D3 Systems and was conducted among 1,150 Iraqis. The views of Iraqi Kurds in particular are highlighted below
>>> Thinking about any hardships you might have suffered since the US-Britain invasion, do you personally think that ousting Saddam Hussein was worth it or not?
Iraqi Kurds: 91% said it was WORTH IT.
>>> Do you think that Iraq today is generally headed in the right direction or the wrong direction?
Iraqi Kurds: 76% said RIGHT DIRECTION.
>>> Do you think that the government to be established by the newly-elected parliament will or will not be the legitimate representative of the Iraqi people?
Iraqi Kurds: 81% said WILL BE.
Despite a "negative" bias in some of the questions, Iraqi Kurds remained optimistic and resolute in supporting a better future for their country and their people and resisted attempts to "bash" the United States.
>>> It is offensive to me to have foreign forces in my country?
Iraqi Kurds: 0% said it was offensive.
>>> Do you approve of the U.S. being involved in Iraq - assisting with the economic development of Iraq?
Iraqi Kurds: 87% APPROVE of U.S. involvement.
>>> Do you approve of the U.S. being involved in Iraq - assisting with the development of Iraq's oil industry?
Iraqi Kurds: 87% APPROVE of U.S. involvement.
>>> Do you approve of the U.S. being involved in Iraq - training Iraqi security forces?
Iraqi Kurds: 96% APPROVE of U.S. involvement.
A *ping* to you, and a BUMP TO THE TOP!
I realize the Kurds are a minority in Iraq but this message needs to be broadcasted from every airwave.
A disaster for Sean Penn's movie prospects?
Or perhaps he meant a disaster for Al Qaeda in Iraq and the Ansar Al-Islam terrorist brigades?
Hey, the Kurds are trying. They are spending their own money, believing that by telling their story and attracting American investment it will more than pay for itself in the long run.
There aren't many pro-democracy, pro-capitalism regimes in the Middle East that love the Americans. So they have a unique story to tell right now.
What kind of reaction did they get for the money they've spent thus far? Repudiation from at least 1 well-known American.
See:
"FR Thread: Iraqi Kurds Spank Arianna Huffington
and...
Are the Kurds doing anything to help us or are we still doing all the heavy lifting?
Not sure what more they can do than those kinds of things?
They just passed a new foreign investment law that makes conditions favorable for Western investment.
Their goal is to become the gateway to the rest of Iraq. A model for their fellow Iraqis to the south that THIS is how you do it. I think that's the most valuable help the Kurds can offer the U.S. and the world at this point.
....well this isn't going to help Democrats get elected this fall. *throws article in the trash*
(/sarcasm)
Ariana "Airhead" Huffington--Say no more!
I just emailed the story to a number of cyberfriends across the country who aren't freepers.
Sorry about that. I suppose you won't like this either:
http://old.krg.org/docs/articles/cbn-kurds-vote-bush-oct04.asp

Who would the Iraqi Kurds vote for if they could participate in the upcoming U.S. presidential election? Those we talked to expressed gratitude to the United States for removing their arch-enemy, Saddam Hussein. They answered our presidential pick question by chanting: "Bush!" "George W. Bush! Bush! George Bush!" Their sentiments contrast sharply with those of Sen. John Kerry, who believes America's intervention was the wrong war, at the wrong place and wrong time.
But take another look, this time outside Baghdad and the Sunni Triangle. There is a view of Iraq here that you will rarely see on television or read about in the newspapers. It is the relatively secure and peaceful region of northern Iraq, in Kurdistan.
Car bombings or attacks by insurgents seldom occur in Kurdish-controlled cities like Erbil. While 97 percent of the population is Muslim, most are Kurds, not Arabs.
Kurdistan has enjoyed limited autonomy from the Iraqi government since the Gulf War in 1991. Iraqi Kurds have their own parliament, system of taxation and army.
Yes, security here is tight, but for the most part, the Kurds live in peace. They thank America and George Bush for that.
A number of Kurds spoke to CBN News about their thoughts on the war and Americas part in it. One man said, "We thank George Bush and the Americans for freeing us and freeing Iraq. We ask them to please, help us rebuild our country."
Another reflected, "To me, the Americans are the friends of the Kurds and friends of the oppressed all over the world."
A third said, "It's not just my life that is much better now, it's the lives of all Iraqis. The Kurdish government is a much better government without Saddam, and it is a good example for other Arab countries to follow."
Iraqi Freedom PING.
Shhhh!!! Don't let your liberal friends see this. They'll get angry with you PING!
War in Iraq PING. Check out the article on the Bush v. Kerry opinions from Iraqi Kurds. Wonder why the media never reported that much? (plays dumb PING!)
thanks for the ping, great news!!!
I love those "Tank you Amereeka" commercials running on Fox. I suspect they are going over well with the American public who give and give and give globally and never hear any thanks from anyone.
