Another example of why letting the Democrats ever again controll any portion of the Federal Goverment is insanely risky. The notion that once in they would easily be routed out of power again is nonsense.

Secret plan alleged on campaign financing Sacramento Bee ^ | 9/19/6 | Jim Sanders

Posted on 09/19/2006 9:54:35 AM CDT by SmithL

A California Nurses Association publication indicates the group is pushing the Proposition 89 campaign-finance measure as a Trojan horse to get what it covets most: universal health care, opponents said Monday.

Allan Zaremberg, president of the California Chamber of Commerce, said the strategy basically was spelled out in a document that appeared on the nurses association Web site.

"They have a two-step process here," he said. "One is to eliminate the ability of business to communicate with the voters. The second step is to have government-run health care on the next ballot ... and deny voters the ability to hear the other side."

Proposition 89 would allow public financing of campaigns for state offices, an overhaul touted as a way to discourage undue influence by well-heeled special interests.

The measure, crafted by the CNA, is on the Nov. 7 ballot.

Chuck Idelson, spokesman for both the CNA and the Yes on Proposition 89 campaign, said the nurses group has supported universal health care for many years but that the campaign-finance initiative is not specifically linked to that goal.

Universal health care is a bitterly controversial concept to replace California's system of private health insurance with a state-run system to provide medical care to every resident.

Most military members are against a draft for just that reason.

Oh, I know...I'm just as frustrated as Rush is with "stoopid dudes"...my stepson didn't shape up until he joined the military...

PRESIDENT BUSH SPEAKS TO THE PEOPLE OF THE MIDDLE EAST [Mario Loyola]

Those who criticize the speech the President just gave before the UN General Assembly should consider that its purpose was not to make a policy statement or even articulate a diplomatic posture. It was intended more than anything an an act of public diplomacy.

Knowing that the speech would be carried live in translation to audiences throughout the Middle East, the president took this as an opportunity to speak to the people of the region. He started this second-person "bully pulpit" material with the following:

Imagine what it's like to be a young person living in a country that is not moving toward reform. You're 21 years old, and while your peers in other parts of the world are casting their ballots for the first time, you are powerless to change the course of your government. While your peers in other parts of the world have received educations that prepare them for the opportunities of a global economy, you have been fed propaganda and conspiracy theories that blame others for your country's shortcomings. And everywhere you turn, you hear extremists who tell you that you can escape your misery and regain your dignity through violence and terror and martyrdom. For many across the broader Middle East, this is the dismal choice presented every day.

The President then went on to address by turns the people of Iraq, Lebanon, Iran, Syria, Sudan, and of course the Holy Land.

Particular focus will be on Iran, especially given the news of French president Jacques Chirac's recent statements suggesting that he's backing away from sanctions.

I'll have more to say about this later. But for the moment, don't assume it's a bad thing that we are forced to drop the idea of sanctions, because the Security Council has thus far only protected Iran from facing a real strategic choice — a choice between a negotiated peace and the consequences of its aggressive challenge to the status quo.

You can try but I seriously don't see that you have the facts to make that comparison. He has no public record of votes. The media is untrustworthy at best depending upon the source and people just think they know where he stands. It's ridiculous to call anyone a liberal because they are not a robot. Bush has been called out by conservatives for not being conservative enough.

My point is that this BS litmus test that you apply so haphazardly is simply not a fair measure of a man. Every human being deserves to be taken in his entirety, flaws and all and entitled to respect. Human dignity. People sitting on the sideline hurling bombs day in and day out, not backed up by facts is derisive and reminds of the Democrats not what the Republicans should be engaged in.

In regards to my feelings, they do not enter into this. I am looking to the good of our country and our party. I want to give a fair hearing to every single person that runs for President.

The way people go after McCain is also unfair. But at least there is a record in which to disagree with him. However to simply dismiss such folks as rino's does nothing to enhance public discourse. I could call Romney a Liberal, but considering how little I know about him, I think that would be grossly unfair.

As liberal as Rudy Guiliani may or may not be, I don't care that much. I do care that he would be a tough Commander-In-Chief who would tirelessly pursue the enemy.

The WOT is not just a blip on the radar screen...This confrontation is the final showdown in a centuries old religious power struggle. Islam must be taught that modernity demands that they play well with the rest of the world's religion...or be destroyed from within and without.
