MSNBC's Jay Barbree says that NASA may hold off on tomorrow's scheduled shuttle landing after cameras saw "something" floating nearby; NASA afraid that it may have been something that came off of the shuttle during an overnight engine burn. They're not sure if it is from Atlantis, or just space junk.
They want to check to make sure it is nothing from the thermal protection system on board Atlantis.

Probably. Depends on whether they've got enough propellant margin to perform a rendezvous.
If they had to get back to the station, would they have enough propellant left to return to Earth?

If they had to get back to the station, would they have enough propellant left to return to Earth? That's what the propellant margin would have to cover.

would they have enough propellant left to return to Earth? They can return to the ISS. If the Shuttle is then too low on fuel to attempt reentry they may have to stay on the ISS until another Shuttle can get there to bring them back. Can the Shuttle be refueled at the ISS?

Maybe the shuttle could be converted into a space station module if it couldn't be refueled to return to Earth.
To: Fitzcarraldo
It would probably be set free to drift and reenter on its own rather than occupy valuable port space. It seems odd that a space station wouldn't have refueling capability.

Wonder what size the object is.
I suppose there's no chance it could be the black obelisk that figured so prominently in Kubrick's movie "2001: A Space Oddyssey"...

I remember the rage, prior to cable, when Jersey Shore antennas were made from beer cans! I soldered mah beer cans together so that we could pick up New Yirk and Philly stations from Seaside Heights NJ! It was a man thing!

The quote gives it away, at least for those of us who are old. Lost in Space. She was fixated on Dr. Smith. I remember, even though I was just a wee lad, thinking, how could someone so hot be fixated on a weasel like Smith? How could we forget Veena?
"Handsome, pretty, handsome, Dr. Smith!"
