McGreevey's truth is hard to believe
Philadelphia inquirer ^ | Sep. 19, 2006 | Monica Yant Kinney

Posted on 09/19/2006 5:02:24 AM PDT by thomas16

Here's my Confession: Last week, I actually wondered if I was being too hard on former Gov. Jim McGreevey, the lying, cheating, sleaze hawking a new book claiming he's a changed man.

But then I spent the weekend reading an increasingly sickening war of words between McGreevey and his supposed former lover, Golan Cipel. Now, the most charitable thing to say about the disgraced leader is that he's lucky he wasn't investigated for attempted rape - and luckier today's much-hyped Oprah appearance is not live, but taped.

Leave it to McGreevey to usher in a new low for sexual politics: The he-said, he-said....... The problem with writing a tell-all titled The Confession is this: If you've been lying your whole life, why should anyone believe you now?

Especially when you admit your own memory is faulty when it comes to your own misdeeds.

And especially since this Confession tries to absolve just one person (McGreevey) and scandalizes so many others (ex-wives, daughters and parents, to name a few who deserve better).

Politicians see McGreevey's sex saga as a convenient explanation for his demise that keeps the bodies buried. They love that McGreevey tattles about dirty deeds in the bedroom but keeps quiet about the back rooms.

McGreevey didn't come clean. He just came out......

My prediction: Oprah and Larry King may fawn over the "gay American," but regular people will buy neither the story line nor The Confession.

We already know enough to know we don't want to know more. The book will wind up in the discount bins, where the unreadable and unthinkable belong.

It doesn't surprise me that Oprah picked this up. People forget that she made her first million on 'sleeze TV'. Even after years of trying to act legitimate, I guess it's true ... "You can't polish a turd!"

Ewwwwwwwww... I'm not interested in the joys of butt-plugging by a corrupt and sleazy ex-politician. As a normal American, I could care less that Jim McGreevey was gay. Let's just say he threw his future away for instant gratification. He can enjoy the rest of his miserable life - but not at my expense.

Keep in mind that McGreevey was facing imminent indictment over various financial and bribery scandals. All of that was vaporized when he made his statement that he was a Gay American. One way or another, Governor McGreevey was going down. Frankly, he took the easy way out.

Everything McGreevy has done, from cheating on his wife, to possible sexual harrassment, to setting up his lover with a gimmie job, is all excused, because he is 'gay'. So, that's all right then. Say anything about how wrong this is, and be accused of homophobia. I hate Democrats and the mess they made of this country becouse of the world of Politically Correct.

I still want to know why he wasnt charged with anything. I think he lied to the people of NJ and he most likely did countless other illegal things we have no clue about. I hope nobody tunes into any show he is on nor buys his book. Instead of being ashamed of what he did he is out there making money on his lies and cheating. And being gay. The man has no shame for what he put his wives and children through, nor what he did to the state of NJ. He is disgusting.

One of the biggest items that's gets missed in this story is how the press (NJ, NY and PA) looked the other way while all this was going on. The fact that he was gay was the worse kept secret in NJ. However when he appointed someone as unqualified as Cipel to head NJ's homeland security shows the press was either inept to or had some agreement not to 'out' McGreevy.
Anyone worth their salt in journalism should have been all over this story long before he resigned.

Point on. One of the many reasons I do loath the party of death and deceit.

Yo, Pasta Dude

I think you are missing the true contribution made by McGravy to New Jersey.

Previous to his recumbency, being queer in New Jersey meant that one preferred women to Budweiser. Now, you guys are right up there with Greenwich Village, San Francisco, and Philadelphia.

I think you should name a toll booth after the guy, at least. Maybe one in front of a long dark tunnel.

Don't be surprised if this guy gets AIDS and becomes even more of a saint to the MSM.

They could rename the Jersey Turnpike, to the Hershey Highway.

And leave it to Oprah to have this sleaze bag on her show to promote his despicable book. I'm one conservative that has continued to occasionally watch Oprah and thought she would never compromise her ethics for television ratings. I guess I was wrong.

I was under the impression that she had divorced trash television and would only have authors of books on her show that she wanted to help promote. I'm not surprised that McGreevey is now pimping his trash on television, but I am surprised Oprah gave the degenerate whore a world wide stage in which to do it.

Yo, Very appropriate! You can even actually get to Hershey from the NJTP. But I fear you do not apppreciate McGravy's other fine qualities. Even as a child, he always made sure his family was included in all the fun. He never left his brothers behind.

"You can't polish a turd!"

Funny you should use that line when discussing turd burglars.
