Nearly two of every three Colorado voters think illegal immigrants should be allowed to become U.S. citizens if they pay taxes, learn English and meet other requirements, according to a new Rocky Mountain News/CBS 4 poll.
Only 15 percent of those polled favor mass deportations.
"People want to be tough but fair," said pollster Lori Weigel. "It's like many issues. You tend to hear from extremes on both ends. Clearly, this data indicate that there's a silent majority that is supportive of a more middle-ground approach."

The RMN is conservative compared to the other Denver daily, the Denver Post. The Rocky will sometimes endorse a Republican...and the paper's editor is fairly conservative...though not by Freeper standards.
Oh, so now the NUMBERS are what make Hitler's "deportations" unique?
Stop it -- you are making a fool of yourself! You know that Hitler deported citizens, not illegal aliens (much less the way he did it). It is another Dane Strawman.
So who do you think you are soring points with? The outside world? Even the looniest Lefty will have to see that you are using the most specious and fallacious logical fallacies available.
And I didn't even invoke Godwin's Law yet.
Yeah they do. That's why most GOPers have started talking tough on the border. While Senators not up for election can keep their heads up their butts and sniff.
Hell, talk radio is a bunch of liberal patsies by freeper standards. ;o)
That is good enough for me. Close the dang border, deport illegals when found, might take a year or two..whatever..get them out of this country!
QED
It would take more than a year or two and this problem will not be solved with a twitch of a nose as you are promoting.
...Secure Our Borders and Be True Conservatives. It's all we ask and we'll vote for our Party every time!
You can't wish the images or the history of hitler's mass deportations away.
This porridge is too cold, this porridge is too hot, this porridge is JUST RIGHT.
Hey Hey, Ho Ho, Goldilocks has got to go !
Dane, I am not promoting a "twitch of the nose" My year or two statement meant: Yes, it will take awhile..no matter..get the illegals OUT!
I don;t CARE how long it takes..that is irrelevant. It can take 10 years, 20 years..the borders should stay closed..until ALL non-US citizens are accounted for.
BTW..NO PATH to citizenship should ever be give to any illegal alien EVER! Being illegal entrant shows contempt for this country..it should not be rewarded,
Work here for cheap wages, sure, but you employer pays health, education, etc.
I'm tired of the illegal getting a free ride on MY back...and that of other taxpayers as well.
Actually, that will be more effective than you think. El Red De Camino is extremely efficient (and it does a GREAT job of exaggerating small things). If word gets out that El Gringo no es El Patsy no mas then people will stay home and those here will get out of town, quickly.
Look what happended when they did mini-raids in inland Southern California. ALL the illegals stayed home.
It would take more than a year or two and this problem will not be solved with a twitch of a nose as you are promoting.
Won't be solved with the twitch of a nose? You think it can be dane, the difference is you want the nose twitched to keep all illegals here sucking the life out of our economy.
We can deport them, all we have to do is start doing it. This crap poll BTW, is BS. They are not straight forward questions as you state, the question about illegals becoming citizens is a loaded one. This poll is useless. I was in Colorado recently and my informal poll has it 4 out of 5 colorado residents want illegals to get the he** out of our country and stay out.
Who exactly is calling for mass deportations? Most who oppose multi-step amnesty and unadvertised increases in permanent legal immigration favor the attrition strategy whereby a combination of real border security, interior enforcement, cutting off of public services to illegals, and yes, deportation, is used to gradually reduce the illegal population. Most who speak of us wanting to 'round up 12 million illegals overnight and shipping them out' are knowingly mischaracterizing the approach favored by Tancredo and others. It'd be interesting to see a poll that pits (an accurately and fairly described) attrition strategy against the delayed-amnesty bills of the Senate and Pence.
And before you get too confident about public support for the Pence plan, you should keep in mind that, like the McKennedy senate bill, Pence does not bother informing the public of the massive increases in already large-scale legal immigration it would unleash. For some reason, sponsors of legislation don't deem it necessary to inform the people of this little tidbit. Why is that, I wonder?
And doesn't Pence claim his bill does not allow a path to citizenship.
Dane, maybe you should vote democrat come this November, at least when it comes to the house of representatives. That's the only way you're going to get that illegal alien amnesty you're shilling for. The democrats would give you more of what you want in an immigration bill.
"I'm registered democrat." -Dane
I'd suggest you put your efforts towards reducing your own imported oil use.
It took 10 years to build, we can tear it down in 10 years. No more welfare, no more schooling, no more hospitals, EXTREME financial and criminal sanctions on employers of illegals -- they will go home where they have welfare (which I have pointed out and you have pointedly ignored).
How do you make paying taxes "warm & fuzzy" Since we can't depot them all, we should allow them all in? Since we can't catch every law breaker we should allow anarchy?
LOL. You got that right!
And what about native born Americans, who by vast greater numbers are getting the free ride on your back.
But what the hey it's that evil housekeeper Maria who you slam.
