Poll: Immigration top issue
Rocky Mountain News ^ | September 18, 2006 | Myung Oak Kim

Nearly two of every three Colorado voters think illegal immigrants should be allowed to become U.S. citizens if they pay taxes, learn English and meet other requirements, according to a new Rocky Mountain News/CBS 4 poll.

Only 15 percent of those polled favor mass deportations.

"People want to be tough but fair," said pollster Lori Weigel. "It's like many issues. You tend to hear from extremes on both ends. Clearly, this data indicate that there's a silent majority that is supportive of a more middle-ground approach."

I guess you are new to this.

I am not new to this. I live in Texas, and virtually ALL of America trashes us over the border. I disagree with Dane on some of the finite points. Understand that if one trashes the state of Texas over FEDERAL immigration policy, I am merciless and relentless. Please carry on. It amuses me.

Only Extremes for answers - mass deportation or citizenship.

Mass deportation isn't extreme. In Singapore, they do all of the following to each illegal immigrant arrested - flog them, imprison them for at least six months and confiscate any assets found on them. That's probably a little stern. But deportation is way down on the list of measures I would consider extreme.

I think you need to re-treat and go on to bed. You have been beaten to a pulp. I almost feel sorry for you but you bring it on yourself.

I think this is the finest bunch of Freepers ever assembled tonight. I love you guys because you said all the things I wanted to say but didn't know how. What a slaughter.

Seems like most voters would like to take the Pence approach and not the tancredo approach,

And that makes excusing criminal invaders and their enablers - and even rewarding them with jobs and citizenship - perfectly OK. Right? I don't care if 99 out of 100 people think that excusing their crimes is the best course of action. There is a difference between right and wrong and when you reward lawbreaking you only get more lawbreaking. You may desire anarchy in this country, the dissolution of our borders, and the undermining of our traditions, language, and culture, but I don't. And I will keep fighting you and every other invasion enabling quisling until our borders are secured and the invaders are repelled. So spin the poll numbers all you want, and do whatever lying and smearing you so love doing, but at the end of the day you're calling for the continued invasion of our country and for rewarding the invaders. History will remember where your loyalty was laid.

I support those who take risks to create wealth for all(businesses) than some of the people who knee jerkingly hate some businesses because of the people they hire to create that wealth.

And the heck with people that steal that wealth and undermine the market that creates that wealth. Better to screw them so you can sleep "well" since the theft is from "the big guy who can afford it." Except it is not. Illegal aliens steal from native born Americans, especially the minorities, including and especially the Latinos (and all the other Persons Of Color you liberals claim to love). They steal Welfare money, they increase payroll and other taxes and take from people who are here legally.

Your Reagan quote is thin and disingenuous and smears a great man. Your tag should be revoked.

just cut off the jobs for illegals - prosecute social security number thieves, prosecute employers of illegal aliens , cut off the social support benefits - AND the illegals will slowly but surely GO BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM

I think they will quickly do it. If there is Nada aqui and a good chance of incareration, they will indeed return home.

Everyone, including you, Dane, keeps ignoring what I have been saying: Mexico and Canada have free health care, free schooling, free housing and free food. It may not be on the luxury level of the USA, but it is legal and free.

Excellent solution. Mass deportations aren't necessary. Just remove the incentives for being here.

The point is - mass deportation is not really necessary to solve the problem - Self-Deportation is a better answer

Absolutely! However whatever it takes. Voluntarily or by force. We have been here before more then once. With all the same BS being spouted about compassion, splitting families and hard workers also the promises that amnesty won't lead to larger amnesties in the future and promises of securing the border etc. They lied then they are lying now! In 1965 Ted Kennedy promised we would not be overrun. 1986 we were promised a secure border and no more amnesties! Hopefully America is not THAT stupid again even if a few obviously are.

So here we sit with our way of life and the responsibility passed down to us from the blood of many patriots and other fine Americans in our hands and America in the balance.

1986 - 3 million ultimately turned into 12+.

Will we stand for what we know is right or roll over?

all illegals here sucking the life out of our economy.

I don't think so. Unemployment at 4.7%, dow jones near an all time high, home ownership at an all time high, crime near a 40 year low, federal taxes as a percent of gdp at a 30 year low, and all this despite a war on terror, a war in iraq, 9-11, and the dot com bust.

Don't forget the impact on local schools, health care & courts where these "workers" settle in large numbers.
