Clinton pins voting woes on Blackwell Strickland gets ex-president's help Sunday, September 17, 2006 Mark Naymik Plain Dealer Politics Writer

Former President Bill Clinton, in a brief stop Saturday in Cleveland, blamed Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Blackwell for Ohio's voting problems during the state's close 2004 presidential election.

Campaigning for Democrat Ted Strickland, Clinton referred to Blackwell, the state's chief election officer, as a "fellow whose main credential as a Republican is that he tried to disempower so many people."

Cheered on by nearly a thousand people in a ballroom at the Intercontinental Hotel just east of downtown, he displayed his casual but calculated style that made him a popular two-term president.

"You know, at the end of your life, you think about all the things they can put on your tombstone," he said. "One thing they'll never be able to put on mine or Ted's is He tried to keep people from voting.' "

JMO, I think the dems are losing traction, especially when they start gettting hysterical about voting.

Also jesse jackson is parroting the same old tired line.

Especially when they start getting hysterical in September.

Blackwell should respond by pinning 9-11 on Bill Clinton...there's certainly more to support that contention (letting Bin Laden get away 12 times, selling away airport security to the airlines for $700,000 in campaign cash to the DNC, etc.) than that Blackwell was responsible for INCOMPETENT Democratic local elections officials not setting up sufficient polling space. Why is it hard working Republicans ALWAYS take the blame for the bumbling of incompetent and corrupt Democratic local pols like Nagin for example?

There's a tombstone we can all hope goes up soon...no Bill, your's will simply read "Impeached." Or better yet "To blame for 9-11." Or if he wants to keep on a voting theme "I forced the INS to skip background checks on illegal aliens and admitted 26,000 violent felons as a result trying to get new Hispanic voters into the US in time for the 1996 election."

Just proving again clinton is nothing but a piece of excrement.

Hopefully this will charge up the GOP base and help Blackwell.

Yeah, god forbid anyone try and keep people from voting. You know; the unregistered ones, the undocumented ones, those without ID's, those voting more than once, the dead ones, etc.

BTW, in this election in Ohio, all voters must show an ID, no wonder the rats are screeching.

Did anyone here actually experience any of the alleged vote suppression efforts or the vote counting irregularities?

Just wondering............

The Dems lost the 2004 election to Bush, thanks to Ohio. If there had been any attempt to keep people from voting, Kerry would have NEVER made his concession speech so quickly. He KNEW that election was on the up-and-up, and his "keepers" told him to concede. Of course, if they had counted votes in Ohio, the Dems might have been revealed as breaking the voting laws.

Republican leadership have an evil, invisible ray that causes confusion, corruption, and incompetence only in Democrat voting districts. The Dims have thus far been unable to come up with a countermeasure.

Sssshhhhhhh! Don't tell anybody.
