Tom Tancredo makes a very dumb mistake
SPLCenter ^ | 9-18-06 | Alexander Zaitchik

Tancredo's appearance was part of a five-day sweep through conservative South Carolina, which hosts an early GOP primary and has seen the Southeast's largest percentage gain in foreign-born residents since the 2000 Census. Rising to his friendly audience, Tancredo blasted South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham for being too soft on immigration and basked in the long applause that followed his harangues against illegal immigrants and "the cult of multiculturalism" that glorifies disunity and refuses to acknowledge the "Christian principles enshrined in the U.S. Constitution." (Tancredo did not appear to grasp the irony of addressing the "lack of unity" in America in front of a group dedicated to Southern secession.)

Don't get me wrong - I have been a huge admireer of Tancredo's refreshingly blunt language about illegal immigration, and have bandied his name about as one to watch. I've lived in the South my whole life and love it, and I also know that Morris Dees from the SPLC (the group who wrote this article) is a crook and his organization is LLL to the core. In spite of all that, this group sounds like a bunch of morons, and Tancredo could pay a heavy price for giving them a speech. I mean, they want the South to secede from the U.S. How idiotic is that? Email Tancredo and tell him to do some quick PR work lest this sink any higher aspirations he's got. Here's how the group describe themselves:
Most organizations founder because they lack self-definition and a definite goal. The League of the South is a Southern Nationalist organization whose ultimate goal is a free and independent Southern republic. To reach this goal, we intend to create the climate for a free South among our people by 1) de-legitimating the American Empire at every opportunity; 2) by proving our willingness to be servant-leaders to the Southern people; and 3) by making The League of the South a strong, viable organization that will lead us to Southern independence.

Perhaps if the rest of the Country was not so idiotically politically correct, the LLL would have less reason to exist.

Why are you wasting so much bandwidth by posting an entire article?

I think this is the greatest article I've read in a long time. It's a long read, but well worth it.

It's nearly an impossible read as posted.

I agree, but you're talking about the political climate you want, not the one that exists, and if Tancredo hopes to advance his political career, this could hurt him with a lot of folks. He has seized on the illegals issue with force, an issue that huge majorities are behind him on, as both parties avoid the people's will and enforce the laws. Talking to groups that want the South to secede can't do him any favors.

I just did,
I won't.
Tancredo can use any venue available...
the message is still appropriate.

"as both parties avoid the people's will and enforce the laws" should have read "both parties avoid the people's will that illegal immigration laws be enforced."

So, he's on the pre-campaign 2008 trail?

While I disagree with the goals of the League of the South, I can assure you they are NOT a bunch of morons. Professors and doctors in this area are members. It's not just a bunch of uneducated rednecks.

Maybe, but look at the first sentence of how they answer the question, What is the League of the South?

Most organizations founder because they lack self-definition and a definite goal.

"de-legitimating the American Empire at every opportunity"

If that doesn't sound like libTardese, I don't know what does.
