I admire the way Romney dealt with the health care issue. He subsidized the poor working families, enabling them to BUY health care from private providers.

Better to subsidize coverage than pay when the health issues are catastrophic.

Sacriledge to many freepers, but so be it.

We cannot simply turn our backs on the working poor.

You are right about Monday morning quarterbacking :) But it is so illustrative of the way we are here and why I love this place so much. We just can't stand it when pieces don't hang together, when the parts don't fit, when there is that intellectual disonance. And we keep poking a stick at whatever it is until we are satisfied that we have the best and clearest idea of just what really happened and why.

It would please me no end if Powell would just shut up and retire into oblivion.

For 6 years I've been saying that about Clinton and all his remora fish that won't just shut up and go away already. Expect Powell to be in the spotlight as long as ONE Republican remains in charge; the DBM's on a mission.

But you already know that.....

I gotta tell you I am really pissed at McCain for bringing up all these rules of torturing the enemy at a time when we are just turning this election around.
IMHO it makes him a huge traitor to the party and strictly out for himself if there ever was any doubt!!

Since McCain is not representative of the republican party in any sector, I don't believe it hurts the republicans.

Everyone knows he's a media darling and a backstabber too.

I was gonna say I don't know who annoys me more McCain or Powell, but it's McCain by a long shot.

Was channel surfing and caught Blitzed asking a republican about Powell's comment about us losing the moral ground on this war (paraphrasing).......the republican pointed out that the paragraph PRIOR to that statement said that Powell was NOT recommending ANY change to the already agreed upon rules of interrogation.

Looks to me that Powell was exploited by the media and McCain.

As usual, the media sinned by omission and the resultant hsyteria wound up hurting Powell and their boy McCain.

Can anyone post up Powell's complete letter to McCain?

;-) I don't have that kind of reaction to either Mort or Fred. I appreciate Charles, but I roll my eyes when he advocates a higher gas or energy tax and wish for a surprise appearance of Walter Williams to straighten him out on that issue.

Sheppy was congratulating Jane Skinner on her new show the other day...and said that Dayside was going to be moved to the Fox Networks...

I had read that some weeks ago about the folks from Dayside, but I think they're being moved into the time slot after the morning news / talk shows, like Today, but before their current time slot around the lunch hour (east coast and central).

Just watching my TiVo's Meet the Depressed.

Is it just me or is Timmy only interrupting George Aleen?

And is Jim Webb wearing a toupee?

Dear Senator McCain:

I just returned to town and learned about the debate taking place in Congress to redefine Common Article 3 of the Geneva Convention. I do not support such a step and believe it would be inconsistent with the McCain amendment on torture which I supported last year.

I have read the powerful and eloquent letter sent to you by one (of) my distinguished predecessors as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Jack Vessey. I fully endorse in tone and tint his powerful argument. The world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism. To redefine Common Article 3 would add to those doubts. Furthermore, it would put our own troops at risk.

I am as familiar with The Armed Forces Officer as is Jack Vessey. It was written after all the horrors World War II and General George C. Marshall, then Secretary of Defense, used it to tell the world and to remind our soldiers of our moral obligations with respect to those in our custody.

Sincerely,

Colin L. Powell

And another observance.

Timmy's obvious body language when he makes the statement that Allen voted 96% with George Bush his head was shaking NO.

His bias can't be hidden.

McCainn was a staunch pubbie back then and would get NO cover from the dems.

Correct, but misleading.  The dims used him as cover for their folks, the other four bribees, and in ending up protecting them they protected him.

There were no criminal charges to be convicted of.

Also correct, but in this case incomplette.  At that time it was legal to take a bribe in the form of a huge "campaign contribution" and it was also legal for the politician to keep any money left over from "campaign funds" when they retired.  The bribe was either a retirement fund for those at the end of their careers or, as in McCain's case, a slush fund for his quest for power.  That was all made illegal as the result of this scandal, though it took years.  As stated, it is what Ney just pleaded guilty of doing.

IOW, it was legal to bribe a member of Congress at the time, but it was "embarrassing" if it became public.

It should have ended the careers of all of them.

Permission to steal "Dhimmicrats"?

And you are right on in this post, both about the parties and Soros.  I'm anxious to see if anyone caught him on CNN.

I have to admit... I'm watching football... priorities, after all <g>

Perot had a LOT of money. McCain does not. He can't finance a 3rd party campaign.

If ego were tender, McCain could match Perot dollar for dollar.

Tim Russert doesn't have a shred of credibility left...and NBC doesn't care. He is out there doing what they want him to be doing. The same is true for Chris Matthews. And yes, that is one of the worst toupees I have ever seen. I think the wearing of a toupee should be an automatic disqualification for the US Senate.
