We're gonna have a real problem finding a candidate who can step in George's boots

They're out there. The question is, what will it take to get them to run?

Two who come readily to mind are Haley Barbour and Dick Armey.

"Did you notice Chris Wallace in his interview say; "Patriots like Bush and Cheny and REAL patriots like Powell and McCain"? Not that that exposed him or anything".

I will watch FoxNewsSunday in 4 hours and will listen for that comment!!! Don't want to pre-judge - BUT - would not be surprised. Now I pre-judged.

I don't buy the quickly enough part. I have asked others about that part and it really does not fly. Especially if we were able to track them "after" they left the funeral.

One of the aspects of showing this photo is that the mini-series did a huge deal of damage to the rats IMHO. They really need something besides a little in-fighting between McQueeg and GW to douse out the flames of their budding campaigns and their falling numbers almost everywhere simultaneously.

Pluses:

Saved the Salt Lake Olympics (which were held right after 9/11 under well-organized, heavy security)
Able to overcome a huge democrat machine in Massachusetts
Has run Massachusetts without scandal
Sterling personal life with a photogenic family
Smart and articulate
Looks "presidential"

Minuses:

Mormon faith
Not as conservative on some issues (health care, for example)
Probably won't be able to carry Massachusetts in a national election

Make some lists for other candidates and see what you come up with. Romney looks better when you look at his competition.

Now...back out to the yard!

the drone was not armed and ordnance could not be brought to bear on that bunch quickly enough.

Sounds like CYA to me. I don't see the purpose of the drone looking around if we aren't able to react to an event.

that there "were" rules of engagement in Afghanistan that did prevent us from taking them out.

Some were saying that there was a rule against bombing a cemetary. I don't know about that, and I would imagine gratuitous bombing of cemetaries would probably not be a good thing. However, I believe I recall some pretty hot fighting in a cemetary in Baghdad in the early days so we clearly will go after them wherever they are, cemetary or not.

I also am not convinced by the "can't get there fast enough" part, but I really don't know one way or the other.

I don't like to think that but other have told me that fighters could have been scrambled in 15-20 minutes.
I think it may well have been against the Afghani rules of engagement that we are under.

Totally agree, but I am wondering if there are different rules for Afghanistan where the photo was shot vs. Iraq.

I don't think there is any Republican who can carry Mass. in a national election. I don't get the problem with his faith. I have had friends over the years who were Mormons and they were great people, very family oriented, hard working and trustworthy, and deeply patriotic.

Re: your short list of watchables.

I used to have a friend who .. when I mentioned almsot any subject, would say I don't want to talk about that.

It got to the point where I suggested I just call her and breathe (not too heavily) into the phone.

I'm getting to your point also with journalists. How many can we count on not to upset and depress? Brit Hume is one, but the list gets really short after that.

It's puzzled me but Monday morning quarterbacking is usually a waste of time anyway.

against the Afghani rules of engagement that we are under.

That would be my guess also. They need to change that rule. Oh, I forgot, we must take the high road and fight a more sensitive war.

It's clear that there are those in the CIA who are enemies of America. Same with the State Department.

We need to clean out the vipers.

The nation got over a bias against a Catholic running for President in JFK (Kennedy, not Kerry)

The Sunday Morning Talk Shows - Review

Or "The Heads that Talk Predict the Imminent Dissolution of the GOP"

By Mark Kilmer

Sunday, September 17, 2006

On MTP, an uncomfortable Jim Webb commiserated about Iraq with Tim Russert. Allen defended himself and his policies comfortably. There wasn't much Virginia stuff here.

On FNS, National Intelligence Director John Negroponte told host Chris Wallace that the Administration was not proposing to modify Common Article 3 of the Geneva Convention but rather to apply it in a manner consistent with U.S. law. Next on FNS, House Majority Leader John Boehner warned that House Republicans will insist upon building a really big fence at our border before any other immigration matter can be discussed.

On TW, John McCain decided that the Geneva Convention is the "gold standard throughout the world" by which the treatment of prisoners is regulated. He wants us to pass a global test of sorts for the treatment of prisoners. Later on TW, National Security Advisor Steve Hadley remarked that this enemy does not capture prisoners on the battlefield. It kills them.

On FTN, Bob Schieffer noted that South Carolina was a conservative State which would punish Lindsey Graham for opposing the President. He predicted an opponent for Graham in South Carolina's primary. (It was held June 13, but...)

Hadley and Graham had a conversation in the FTN Green Room, and Schieffer seemed to think this might lead to a breakthrough.

On FTN, Arlen Specter announced that he wanted to preserve habeas corpus for jihadists, and Carl Levin put down the lemon he'd been sucking long enough to mouth off again.

On LE, Wolf Blitzer told Steven Hadley of John McCain's fears that "redefining" Common Article 3 would put our troops in jeopardy. (I'll take Ambiguous Treaties for $500, Alex.) Hadley said that they were not redefining Common Article 3 needs to be defined "because nobody knows what it means."

Ultimately the release of the photo works against the dems and McCain who want to play nice with the terrorists.
