Saw a B2 Spirit while visiting Staten Island today.. It was a beautiful sight to see. Very quiet -- you wouldn't know it was over you until it was too late..
I've been waiting to see one for quite a while, and finally got a chance to. My son pointed out a plane to me, and I looked up expecting to see a passenger jet but instead saw the B2... :-)
Very cool plane!!!!!
Interesting... It was much larger in apparent size when I saw it than what is depicted in the NY skyline photograph... Guess that I was lucky to have been in the right place at the right time...
This aircraft was restored by a group of volunteers at the Planes of Fame Museum in Chino, CA. It was one of the most extensive and expensive restoration projects ever undertaken (no readily available spare parts in aircraft bone yards).
Max amd the other XB test pilots got seat time in the the N9M to familiarize themselves with the handling of a flying wing before they did the first flights in the XB35.
YES! The B-2 was circling over the Connecticut shoreline Saturday, September 16, 2006. I have seen no mention in any media outlet confirming that the plane was in our region. Would anybody know why the B-2 was flying around NYC/CT this weekend? --or is that more or less a commonplace thing nowadays?
From my experience you don't hear them coming at you. When the B2 flies past they are loud, actually a heavy rumble. I'm going to make some of you jealous, I live in Central Missouri along hwy 50 90miles east of Whiteman Airforce base. So I get to see them every once in awhile. Once 3 of them flying in formation. When we are in the house and hear that low rumble we run out and look west and one or more will be heading back to base.
