How Many Divisions Does The NY Times Have? Grey Lady Demands Apology From Pope

In a surreal clash of the sacred and the profane, the New York Times - that citadel of secularism - has declared in its editorial of this morning that Pope Benedict "needs to offer a deep and persuasive apology," for having quoted a 14th century Christian emperor who said:

“Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.”

The Times is only being fair and balanced, I suppose. After all, hardly a week goes by that you can't pick up the paper and read an editorial condemning this or that mullah, imam or ayatollah for the latest fatwa ordering the death of such-and-such infidel or the destruction of entire countries found to be an annoyance. Or not.

But the Times suddenly gets religion, if they'll excuse the expresssion, when it comes to the Pope. Oh well. At least there's one hopeful sign in all this. It was of course Stalin who dismissively asked how many divisions the Pope had. By its editorial according great weight to the words of the Pontiff, the Times would appear to be breaking with Uncle Joe. Might this be the start of a hopeful trend?

"Jesse also said on Fox that most lynchings took place after church."

Past tense again? LOL. Has anyone seen anything that resembles a lynching in their lifetime here?

Jesse...please try to keep up. Things move fast here in the US.

This is cr@P to me as well and I'm not Catholic.

I'm not even religious and I fully support the Pope. The West needs all the help it can get - IMO, the more people openly questioning the ROP, the better. I've mentioned on other posts that if the West fails, the ultimate showdown might be between a beer loving, bikini girl wearing, machismo/revenge oriented culture (ie Latinos) & the 7th century camel humpers.

How about the NY Times apologizing and that dirtbag traitor Bill Keller resigning after making public US plans for monitoring terrorists. What slimey b*stards they are...beneath contempt.

I agree--the Leftists are turning hard on the Jews now--and it will only get worse as Muslims become more numerous. The other groups will have their turn later. Why are Jews still Dems? My theory is:

1. Old habits are hard to break, especially when its backed up by a lifetime of expensive education.
2. In private, the Dems will still be friendly because they know Jews are still a big source of funding.
3. Libs have a perchant for denying the reality before their eyes. Instead, they perceive things in terms of how they believe they should be (rather than how they actually are). Given this, I have no doubt some Jews will continue to be liberals even when liberals start calling for their extermination. Actually, its already happening in Israel itself, with the "Peace Now" crowd.

I don't think you understand the influence the Pope has on non-Catholics in the world. The Pope is regarded as a world leader.

I guess I wouldn't know. He's my leader, but like I told the last bunch, call me when Billy Graham advocates violence, I don't want to miss that.

My point was that it's not quite as blue as the Eastern part of the state. BTW the town of Amherst -- is there a tax revolt yet?

The New York Times is fundamentally unAmerican IMO. Of course the NYT delights when they get the opportunity to bash the Catholic Church instead of pursuing rational discourse on the facts of the matter. Let me see now, the Pope said that muslims are irrational and violent. The reactions of the muslims were irrational and violent. And the NYT is ignoring the actual substance and context of the Pope's comment, and instead demanding that the Pope apologize. The NYT should clarify exactly what they want the Pope to apologize for!! ...stating the truth?

It appears that one cannot have an intellectual conversation with the muslim community. Intelligent discourse could lead to needed reform of Islam.

The religion of Islam has had no equivalent to the 21 Ecumenical Councils held by the Catholic Church. Islam is thus stuck in the 7th (4th?) Century and full of contradictions and inconsistencies in its holy literature.

The pope doesn't need any more learned priests. What he needs is a good artist who can draw cartoons of Mohammed. That'll calm down the islamic caliphate - the church of perpetual outrage.

In a surreal clash of the sacred and the profane...

That is a very nice turn of phrase. I'm jealous.

"I do think that there is a growing fear in Europe now. "

They better hold onto their hats, because it's only going to get worse. This truly is a class of civilization against barbarians.
