Officials in the U.S. Pennsylvania town of Hazleton strengthened a local law designed to drive illegal immigrants away in a bid to defend the measure against legal challenges. The new law, approved by a vote of 4-1, increases pressure on local employers to avoid hiring illegal immigrants and raises fines for landlords who rent rooms to them. Landlords will be fined $250 a day for each illegal immigrant they rent to. READ MORE

I want that city council here in Houston. They are actually doing it. Putting their money where their mouth is. It sure would be nice to see some people in our local government that would do the will of the people.

"David Vaida, an attorney representing opponents of the law, predicted at the council meeting that it would create a "climate of fear."
"I don't think that you want to live in a town where you are going to pit neighbor against neighbor," he said."
Let me get this straight. Hundreds and thousands of illegal aliens move into my town illegally. The reason for this is because my government CHOOSES to IGNORE the very laws they argued over and ultimately passed with a President's signature.
My long time neighbors and I have been burdened with these "newcomers" for quite a few years. Now I start to complain and "petition" my government for "redress".
I am told now that my petition for redress is causing a "climate of fear".
I am told now that "I don't think that you want to live in a town where you are going to pit neighbor against neighbor".
Well let me tell you this. IT IS NOT ME WHO IS CAUSING A "CLIMATE OF FEAR".
No one is going to deny my right to petition the government for redress of my grievances by saying they are simply offended by my request.
What have we lost when we ask for redress only to be branded as racists, bigots and intolerant fear mongers? This is what is happening. It seems the illegals have more rights than citizens do. When illegals by the thousands marched around the country a while ago, if you were offended by the conduct of the marchers, you were the one with the problem. You need to change and accept these illegals. You see, when you are not tolerant of the "immigrants" you are the problem, not the "immigrants".
This is absurd and needs to stop NOW! I am damn tired of of being portrayed as the bad guy here. Where are MY rights? This is MY country. You are more than welcome to join us in our wonderful country, but do it right. Take your turn. Do it legally. Bring your family, but do it legally.
We have the right to limit how many people join us here. We can pick and choose who join us. We can decide at any time to remove you for any reason we deem fit if you are "undocumented".
So, hope to see you here when you are willing to legally become part of the USA.

Many towns...often blame illegal immigration for a host of ills such as rising crime and overburdened social services. Mayor Lou Barletta...says the quality of life in the town of 31,000 has fallen because of an influx of illegal immigrants, mostly from Central America....
Hazleton's Hispanic population has reached about a third of the town's total in the last five years. An estimated 25% of immigrants are believed to be illegal....
I heard Mayor Barletta on a talk show a couple of months ago. Apparently the town isn't just looking for a scapegoat for its ills. According to him, ALL murders in the town and nearly all violent (and non-violent) crimes have been traced to illegals. If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, smells like a duck, and acts like a duck, you're a fool to try to avoid calling it a duck.
Kudos to Mayor Barletta and the town fathers for actually putting the safety, welfare and survival of their citizens FIRST.

If only the Executive Branch felt that way.

I know Hazleton very well. My father was born there. My grandparents migrated there from what used to be Yugoslavisa. This town was historically and predominantly Slavic. It was a safe, clean, small, quaint town where people left their doors open at night and you knew all your neighbors. Finally, a mayor willing to stand up to this pandering BS and take his town back.

I look forward to supporting the local economy again. The situation had driven me to stop staying there when I was in the area...and I haven't liked going on to Wilkes-Barre, etc. If this works and returns Hazleton to its wonderful past, what a great thing it will be!

I love your father's hometown, NKAfM! The architecture hints of the grandeur of the past, and the historical society has some wonderful old photos.
