Perhaps the Political Suicide Club Conservatives might want to consider this. In all the political wet dream fantasizes that "Conservatives win by losing" what do they think happens to their slim chances of taking BACK the Congress if the Democrats follow up this with a reinstitution of the Fairness Doctrine?
The Fairness Doctrine would totally destroy Conservative Talk Radio. Without talk Radio the Conservative ability to win the Congress back goes from slim to nonexistent. This wacko wild butt guess that by losing the Congress the Republicans would be "forced" to more to the right is the dogma of political Know Nothings. This "idea" shows a complete ignorance of the powers of incumbency and the very real damage Democrats could do even if by some miracle they only held the Congress 2 years.

Democrats Call on News Networks to Balance Stories TVweek ^ | September 13, 2006 | Ira Teinowitz

Top Democratic congressional leaders are complaining to network and cable television news executives that the networks are giving the party short shrift in national security stories.
"Until now, there has been a complete absence of balance in the news coverage of national security issues," House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said in letters sent yesterday to top news executives at NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox News Channel and CNN.

Yup! :o)
That's great to hear, varm, and GOOD FOR YOU!
There is the recognition that the female vote is key. This is a weak attempt by the Dems to grab that vote. They will try to scare women about war, the draft, etc., etc. Also, will paint the Pubbies as heartless and "unkind", don't care for the poor, minorities, yada, yada. That is my prediction.
hey Anne
Never seen you before.
Where is you at?
SURE!
Enjoy Sensei!
No problem, Johnnie. And yes, these senators are morons.
I've been in and out here but turned on C-Span about 30 minutes ago while I ate lunch and listened to Sen. Specter talk about the proposed interrogation legislation.
He seemed concerned that habeas corpus (a legal proceeding regarding the lawfulness of the restraint of a person who is imprisoned) would not be recognized.
I wrote a letter to the editor about an issue tangential to that and if this becomes a big stumbling block, we need to call our Senators and remind them of this:
In 1996, Bill Clinton signed an Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act which made it much more difficult for murder defendants to have their habeas corpus appeals heard in federal court.
Your prediction is spot on.
Wow, finally found a topic Georgie Will could remember he was a Conservative on.
Reading it now.

Or dead women.
I'm at work in Baltimore.
I usuallu go on the Day in the Life threads or A Few of Fr's Finest. among others.
I sometimes visit the "Hobbit Hole" Threads.
There was a recent wedding between two FReepers from the "HH" thread.
Mrs Suhks always points out women can multi-task better than men.
I always like to point out map reading is not a skill.
I don't know, in the recent movie, didn't "John O'Neill" say soemthing to the effect that the women were the ones catching all these terrorists? The border agent at the Canadian border was a woman and there was the other gal, who was trying to warn everyone, can't remember her name. Oh yes, Colleen Rowley, FBI agent, I think.
Would know the names of those Congress Critters who actuall VOTED for that BILL!!!!
let's see what Rinos supported this under Clinton, but now quiver about it under Bush....
Petronsky and cyborg finally tied the knot?
Yes.
Here is quick clip and link to article regarding Fonda and women's radio network that Rush was discussing.
Note use of word "upscale" at end. Ties right in with Rush's elitist reference regarding snooty Lib Left

New All-Women Talk Radio Net Launched
by Tom Siebert, Thursday, Sep 14, 2006 9:00 AM ET
THE MALE-DOMINATED BASTION OF TALK radio now has some competition--women want to bring a kinder, gentler tone to the dial.
GreenStone Media--a radio company run by the Clinton Administration's FCC commissioner and founded by noted feminist activists, including Gloria Steinem and Jane Fonda--has launched a national all-woman talk network, targeted to women 25-54.
...
"On one hand, with all the ways to reach women out there, I can't imagine a talk-radio format is necessary," mulls Michele Selby...
"On the other hand, radio needs to do something, because it's not doing very well. Talk radio is geared largely to men, and cable TV networks like Lifetime, WE, HGTV and Oh! are doing well. It's got possibilities, but it will take time to grow into it. If they could get one of the satellite providers, it would definitely help. They'll be drawing a more upscale audience."
Welcome to FR...belated.
