Bush: "Texas has lost one of its great daughters"
WASHINGTON President Bush has paid tribute today to Ann Richards, whom he ousted and succeeded as governor in 1995.
The former Democratic governor of Texas died last night at her Austin home after a battle against esophageal cancer. She was 73.
In a statement issued by the White House, the president said he and first lady Laura Bush "are deeply saddened by the passing of Governor Ann Richards of Texas."
He said Richards "loved Texas, and Texans loved her," and that "as a public servant she earned respect and admiration."
The president said Richards "became a national role model, and her charm, wit and candor brought a refreshing vitality to public life."
He concluded that "Texas has lost one of its great daughters."
The worst time in Ann's life must have been when her daughter became the president of Planned Barrenhood.
Are you implying they might have killed her for some electoral gain? Also Wellstone and Mrs. King? You sound a tad like a moonbat. I would expect that kind of stuff from Democratic Underground or DailyKOS.
Esophageal cancer..is generally a bad way to go.
I don't remember a great deal of hateful comments after Reagan's death. The Drive-by media in fact toned it down for a several days. The only thing I noticed was a few pundits uttered hate filled comments towards Ronaldus Magnus, but most held back (rightly) in good taste. Did some criticise his policies, sure, but I didn't see much vitriol in it...
Even Kerry had quite a bit nice to say about Reagan...
agreed though, Bush has more class in his pinky nail than the pinko libs have in their own bodies--they're probably as much shocked that he'd say such things about someone he beat in election.
Why? A good liberal raises her child to go work for liberal causes. I would have thought she would have been proud of that.
They can't help themselves! They will make a spectacle of themselves and get the whole country PO'd at them again.
You must have forgotten to put the sarcasm notice after your thread.
I'm sure she could have had a show on Jane Fonda's talk radio network on station WBCH.
Pardon, it was a "silver foot."
He sure does have dignity and class but Bush's statement sure was tongue in cheek. He is completely opposite from Richards in every way. And, Bush has a better sense of humor too.
I am not implying that (although I can see how you could interpret that from my original comment). I am implying that that they (the DNC) find a way to exploit their own in a sanctimonious way due to unfortunate happenstance.
I am do not mean to say that they are dictating these events. It is when they do they exploit it because they know that the RNC cannot critique it, or, they will be cast as hateful and insensitive (e.g. the Wellstone funeral). It becomes an un-combatible politcal move for them based on mythology of their principles.
I apologize if I led others to believe that the DNC would commit illegal acts of murder for political gain. Just was typing with my head in different thoughts and it came out wrong.

I didn't like Ann's politics, her persona, or her condescending "Poor George" speech at the Democratic convention. No tears for Ann.
Plus, from your keyboard to God's ears, that both W & HW will be issuing comments after Clinton's death. ;^)
My admiration to our President and my condolences to the Richards family.
Leni
He has more class than some FReepers too.
The original thread had a bunch of pulled posts on it. Just don't click on the thread if you're going to make a nasty comment about someone. It's just common sense.
Was Anne ever young and not silver haired?
Well put. Wish I had thought of that in Post #1.
ABC news radio plays her comments about our President at the top of every hour.
