>the bidding war for Couric

This is really Rather 2.0. Rather's agent, Kenny Leibner, kept threatening CBS that he would take Rather to ABC's anchor chair if CBS didn't boot Cronkite in favor of Rather.

ABC played along because they knew Jennings would beat Rather any day.

So Walter goes adios and Delusional Dan takes over.

Couric's agent, Alan Berger, who works with Superagent Michael Ovitz just played the same game again.... just with a new group of idiots.

Lester the Loser Moonves' wife Julie Chen loved it, because it gave everyone another woman to blame for CBS submarining ratings.

“Sure, some people are going to watch us/her now, but can you imagine anyone having a choice between us and Charlie Gibson on ABC going with us if/when there is another terrorist attack?”

Speaking of, MSNBC was replaying 911 as it happened on the anniversary. Katie was on there, and twice she referred to United Flight 800 as being a terrorist attack. I knew two other journalists had let that slip in the excitement and horror of that day, but wasn't aware Katie had done so as well. Luckily I was taping the replay.

Interesting story. I didn't know the background on how Rather got his job...it was so long ago, and my kids were at home and I was not paying attention to much then.

That's classic!

Katie is a washed up upper-middle aged "girl" who wants everyone to see her as a hot smart perky twenty-something.

Sad, RIP Katie. 49 and not holding...

GREAT info, MindBender26!

I left the networks thirty years ago, but even in those days news didn't pay its own way. The rationale for the division was that it was part of our duty, as trustees of the public airwaves, to inform the public on the issues of the day. Those were the days when 'public interest, convenience, and necessity' was believed to mean just that.

The real downfall of networks new programs can be traced to the period when their news divisions ceased to be independent and instead became part of the entertainment division.

Ok, so what gives at cbs??? There is a foul stench emanating from the innards of the network(s). One is forced to ask themselves what could have driven cbs to elevate a half-wit like perky katie to such a prestigious position(yeah, yeah what prestige). Feminist lobby?

Just what demographic could cbs possibly hope to capture with the toothy one??? I gotta confess, I'm at a loss to figger it out. Unless of course, the "suits" at cbs are as shallow as we've always suspected. I dunno.

Maybe the "suits", pressured(by God knows who) to hire perky, incorporated an escape clause in their contract. You know, sortof like an annulment if they are unable to "consumate" the, er, marriage ;^)

That's what's known as a loaded question, like "when did you stop beating your wife?" It's a rhetorical device that the Left does seem to engage in more than the Right.

The simple retort is "I don't accept your premise." or words to that effect. "Your question assumes that I've ever beat my wife. [that I hate Blacks.]" When employed skillfully it makes the questioner look stupid. Tony Snow is a master of the form, and he uses a stiletto, not a sledgehammer, which is why he is so often credited with giving some hack (e.g., Helen Thomas, David Gregory) a beatdown.

The reason that it is so tough talking to a liberal is because they make assumptions (e.g., anyone in favor of welfare reform is a racist) that they are not even aware are assumptions.

"Ok, so what gives at cbs???"

Same as ABC & the shill Iger.
Liars running ruses gone amok.
Simple as that.

"There is a foul stench emanating from the innards of the network(s)."

HA!!
Fouler, my friend. {g}

"One is forced to ask themselves what could have driven cbs to elevate a half-wit like perky katie..."

The scourge of every Liberal-Socialist addicted to the limousine lifestyle, don'tcha know!!
-$$- ;^)

"...to such a prestigious position(yeah, yeah what prestige)."

Yea, what *prestige*.
Danny "Boy" Rather, Petahhh "RIH" Brokejaw & the other moron(s) took care of any claims to "prestige" that seat [ever] had. ~sigh~

"Feminist lobby?"

HA!!
The old rug munchers are wayyyy too busy trying to get their *new* "Talk Radio" net off the ground to bother with a homely, ever-fattening Liberal-Socialist millionaire like Perky, FGS.

"Just what demographic could cbs possibly hope to capture with the toothy one??? I gotta confess, I'm at a loss to figger it out."

No mystery here a'tall, not really.
Few weeks back (while sitting up in my gazebo, "Talos", enjoying a fine Churchill & watching the garden grow) I heard the the lovable fuzzball speak of what he thinks lies behind the continual abject fear we're bombarded with 24/7, and that's the link. Perhaps you heard him address that little matter, also?
Long story short he said nearly all of today's media -- be it news *&/or* "entertainment" -- are today run by females. :o)

Apparently these "Big Bug Brain" broads running the shows are playing to the rest of America's females and they're using the only thing they think will evoke the/a desired response: *fear*.
Surely you've noticed this unseemly *trend*?

So yes it's the demographic, but more to the point it's the messenger. You see woman are more honest than males such as the lying sack of excrement *like* Danny "Boy" Blather???
Capiche?

"Unless of course, the "suits" at cbs are as shallow as we've always suspected. I dunno."

Sure they're shallow, can't be anything but shallow if you're responsible for the likes of "Dancing With The Stars" et al ad naseum.
Shallow *&* banal, to be sure.

I think we can agree whatever their motive if so much as one scintilla of this story's true? Then let the manipulative SeeBS SOBs responsible for putting the brainless imbecile in that chair have a very slow drown. ;^)

"Maybe the "suits", pressured(by God knows who) to hire perky, incorporated an escape clause in their contract."

No way Jose', nothing short of mass murder & even then I'd think she'd be covered.
Anyone who thinks this idiot's steadfast support of everything Liberal-Socialist didn't come at a cost to someone is nuts.
No Perky's contract is ironclad & you may take that to the bank.

"You know, sortof like an annulment if they are unable to "consumate" the, er, marriage ;^)"

HA!!
Don't you mean an, "Abortion Clause", of sorts given the "infant status" of the relationship? {g}

Tell you what, if SeeBS wants to dump the broad they're going to have to PAY her every cent her contract promises.
Not one penny less.

She may be homely, she may be a Liberal-Socialist's Liberal-Socialist; but, she ain't stupid.

...certainly not where money's involved. ;^)

Your reply is exactly right and you said it much better than I could have. Katie likes to start many of her questions with: "Everybody has said...." For example:

"Now that everybody has said that Iraq is a complete disaster how do you feel?"

I gotta had it to the moonbats though, they know how to get ya riled real fast with their moronic statements! lol!

Leibner played them for the paranoid fools they are.

My current favorite is Av Westin Jr. His father was a genius. The son is a NY lawyer running a network news division,

He was "distressed" by Leonardo DiCaprio's questioning of Bill Clinton as a "reporter" for ABC on Earth Day a few years ago.

The edict went out: "From now on, the parts of journalists will always be played by journalists."

To him, it was all one big play. He didn't understand the difference between news and a soap opera.
