Retired Marine Lt. Col. Bill Cowan to appear on WMAL 630 to discuss the credibility of the "Predator photo". "
You are not alone. Those of us who are perfectly fine with being the sole superpower, and who believe in the goodness of this country and the rightness of our cause, will go very shakey if we see much of this sort of thing.
Kind'ave convenient to have this story come out, after Path to 9/11 showed BJ Clintoon too scared to act.
I had just sent this email to Bill Bennett's show before I opened FR. ----
I have not heard one conservative commentator question the timing of the release of thie Taliban gathered in an Afghan cemetery. It makes me very suspicious because Democrat SOP is to say "everybody does it" when accused of something. This photo and the miniseries "The Path to 9-11" appearing in the same week is too close to be coincidental.
It has been on "ice" waiting to be exposed, I am sure.
maica
I wondered about the incredible coincidence of the photo being "leaked" just after the miniseries aired.
Perdogg is right....there are NO coincidences involved, just news management at all times.
oops, that email was not too coherent, because I forgot to add the word
photo
between 'the' and 'Taliban'
"The PC angle of fighting this war has had me worried for a long time.
You are not alone. Those of us who are perfectly fine with being the sole superpower, and who believe in the goodness of this country and the rightness of our cause, will go very shakey if we see much of this sort of thing."
There was a woman who called into Laura's show yesterday morning who hit the nail right on the head. She said, "You cannot fight a dirty war with white gloves." If we don't show these people we are tougher and meaner and more willing to win, we are going to lose. We are never going to change the hearts and minds of these people, so we must make them fear us.
This has been a strange story.
When I was first shown the picture, it was a classified photo. The picture was the clearest example to date of the structure of the Taliban. The story, as I would discover, had more layers than an onion. After we reviewed the photo and were told the full story behind it, I wondered if they might declassify it. When I followed up a few days later, I was told indeed it had gone through channels and the photo would be shared with NBC News. It went on the Daily Nightly blog.
Fast-forward 24 hours. The picture and the story were taken and used by other reporters. The story, as they say, grew legs. At the same time, I was contacted by a U.S. military spokesman in Kabul. He asked me to take the picture off the Web site, saying it had been a mistake to release it. In a show of concern that perhaps our story would bring danger to U.S. troops, I requested it be taken down while we discussed their concerns.
The problem?
The officer who requested I remove the picture had left his office. His associates told me he was in a chopper, and I would not be able to talk to him Wednesday. I finally reached those who had given me the photo in the first place and was told, "No problem. It's been de-classified. You can use it to broadcast or post on the Web."
So we put the picture back up.
Kerry Sanders, NBC correspondent
Someone in the military surrepitiously leaks an embarrassing classified photo, and now the "military analysts" are claiming it's a fake?
Why would we expect anything else?
He did not claim it was fake, he added context to the photo, context that was not added in the story because whoever leaked it wanted Bush to look bad. We did spot them at a funeral and we could not get the ordnance to target in time.
What does it mean when it says "credibility" then? Was that just a misleading teaser?
It is not misleading. That how it was reported to me on air by WMAL. There is a credibility issue with something that is presented out of context.
You have to:
1. Modify the Air Tasking Order on the fly. Not easy, but it can be done--but it takes time.
2. Get a jet with the right ordnance. Time's a-wastin'.
3. Get said jet over the target. We generally do not have jets flying around in circles over all of Afghanistan, burning lots of jet fuel, just in case a good target comes up.
4. Do all this before the imam running the funeral says the equivalent of "Th-th-th-that's all folks!" and the group breaks up. Notice that the imam and the funeral attendees understand that a big crowd of 'em gathered in one place is just BEGGING for a smart bomb or two, so they're either done very quickly, or they're dead.
Fox & FRiends is going to discuss this in the coming segment. Not sure if they will have on Cowen or not.
Was the Predator armed with Hellfires? If they couldn't get TACAIR up there in time, two Hellfires into that mass of Taliban debris would have done some good work.
The last time I heard a report Fox & FRiends claims that there is no rules of engagement that restricts them from bombing a cemetery.
UPDATE::::: THEY are going to have on Bill Cowen.
His 2000 State of the Union tells us directly: Maybe in 10 or 20 years, we'll be in danger from these folks!!!
