DNC Survey
9/13/06 | doc30

Posted on 09/13/2006 6:33:08 PM PDT by doc30

I don't normally post vanities, but here is a story about how the DNC tried to touch my life. And it also shows how, euphimistically, inept they are.

My mailbox held an interesting surprise for me yesterday. It was a letter from the DNC! This was the last thing I ever expected to receive in the mail. My curiosity got the better of me so I opened it. The salutation was to me, with the title Democratic Party Member. Imagine that! A Freeper getting mail saying he's a member of the DNC. I didn't know if someone was playing a sick joke or if I should be mad because I was just called, in writting, a Democrat!

The survey was all spin type questions with multiple choice answers that were either DNC talking points or too ridiculus to take seriously. Kind of like "Pres Bush is a) doing a terrible job or b) I hate Bush." Not as bad that, but you get the idea. And at the end was a obligatory request for a donation. But that's not the point I'm making here.

What really got me was their statement I was a loyal democrat and they were thankful for my support. The problem, aside from being conservative, is that it is illegal for me to vote or to even join a political party!

I'm not a felon or underaged, but, as many freepers know, I'm not yet a U.S. citizen. I'm still in the immigration pipeline. But I'm really wondering, knowing the underhanded tricks of the DNC, is this. Did I get registered to vote without knowing about it? Or even worse, am I really a member of the DNC? I need to take a shower just thinking about that! But seriously, if they registered me to vote, like they do with dead people, it is a very serious legal matter and could screw up my immigration situation big time.

Perhaps this really is just unsolicited junk mail and Howard Dean got my address from some magazine mailing list. At least I hope! Any way to check this out?

So you're going about it the legal way. That's where they made their mistake - they assumed you were illegal, and automatically a member.

You should play it up with them and see if they can get you registered to vote.

Check with the local precinct

I'd check to see if someone has registered your name to vote and is voting for you.....I'm not sure how your state handles voter registration....They all are different.

You might want to go to your state board here on FR and question the folks there. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help you.

You can always call the elections office in your city to make sure you are not registered.
It is probably just junk mail, but I would want to put my mind at rest.

We have a Russian immigrant living with us and she gets all kinds of literature from groups like ANSWER and the DNC. Sadly as near as we can tell they found her by way of the INS.

I know a lot about how these are done. Voter registration is public information. They would know if you are registered.

Either you are in some organization infested with Dim-crats (a teacher or professor?) and they assumed you are one of them, or they are now trawling for the 'pre-citizen' vote.

I wouldn't put it past them.

As other's mentioned, check to make sure nobody registered in your name. But chances are your name simply turned up on a list the compiled or bought and you got their direct mail piece, same as you would receive an LL Bean catalog.

A few years ago, the DNC somehow got my name and address. (I'm thinking that a friend of mine probably gave it to them as a joke) They'd always include the survey along with an envelope that was "postage paid" but asked me to actually put a stamp on it to help out the DNC, by saving them the cost of the postage. So I always sealed up the envelope (with nothing in it) and sent it back to them, without placing a stamp on it, naturally. Eventually, I stopped getting mail from them.

I'm always one to do my part, you know. ;)

If you were, that sounds like voter fraud to me. If so, I would take it up with your local law enforcement.

Absolutely. Call your local county elections office and see if you are registered in that county. If that doesn't work call the DNC and ask to confirm your address and registration location.

You should be able to call your county clerk's office and find out if you are registered to vote. If you are, you will need to get unregistered. Hopefully someone here will not the procedure. Hold on to the DNC letter. Good luck!

You forgot that some of the groups like Acorn actually register (And some people think vote) for people. Get their names out of phone books etc.

Type in "repository" in the FR search. We've kept a running account of such actions in "swing" states since the 2004 election.

I'd bet a new Barry Grant carburetor that your name is on the rolls as a registered voter, probably with some dead person's social security number.

I smell fraud!

When I managed a new property in New York, a number of phoney voter registrations were made to the building by the Democrats, all using names like "Gonzalez"...

In my state, I can go to my county election home page. Then I put in my name and birthdate and it tells me how I am registered and where my polling place is since they know my address. You may try this, if your county home page allows it. If your name pops up, I'd call someone quick so you won't be penalized. I've never received DNC mail but I have received NOW and Planned Parenthood material. I love sending back the self addressed stamped envelope with my messages!!

When you mentioned LL Bean catalogs, I might have to blame the Mrs doc30. SHe is a catalog shop-aholic. She reads those while I Freep! Hopefully, it was a mass mailing. I am going top do my best to find out about the registration, though. thanks for the ideas no who to talk to. Obviously, I have no experience with the voter registration system here and I am clueless about how it operates at the voter level. Thanks for your help!
