Katie Couric Fires Reporter, Hires Her (liberal) Doctor

Katie Couric has been on the job at the "CBS Evening News” for little more than a week, but changes are already being made on her show – a doctor with ties to Couric has been hired as medical correspondent, replacing veteran Elizabeth Kaledin.

The new face is Dr. Jonathan LaPook, a Manhattan gastroenterologist who helped arrange an on-camera colonoscopy for Couric on the "Today” show in 2000. ~snip~ Kaledin had covered the network beat for CBS since 1996.

"The thing I’d feel most comfortable saying, which is the truth, is that I am heartbroken by the loss of my job and have spent 20 years working to get to this point, only to be replaced by someone with no journalistic experience only because he’s a doctor,” she told Rebecca Dana of the New York Observer.

"I have worked incredibly hard from the smallest markets in TV to get to this point . . . My reporting career is unblemished. I’m well liked. I work hard. I’ve been loyal to CBS.”

But Dr. LaPook is close to Couric, whose husband Jay Monahan died of colon cancer and who founded the Jay Monahan Cancer Center. LaPook is a member of the faculty at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, and the Monahan Center is affiliated with his department there.

Dr. LaPook is the son-in-law of Norman Lear, creator of CBS hits "All in the Family” and "Maude,” and has contributed tens of thousands of dollars to Democratic candidates.

I think everyone at the alphabets need to keep their resumes (and videos) up to date. Snoozepapers too.

Side by side like that you see a resemblance. Same facial structure... cheeks... eyes.... mouth....

Kind of scary.

See how nice these Hillary women are to their women friends. I can only wish her all of the worst & will never watch her. Can't wait for the implode. She make Rather look good when she's ousted.

I caught Katie Colonic's act while channel-surfing the other night (didn't realize she was on). I thought she looked horrible -- haggard and old.

"I got fired because I'm perkier than Katie! "

Very true. And I doubt that CBS had to Photoshop 10 pounds off of Elizabeth Kaledin's face for this picture.

Mine's is Dr. Ball. No kidding. That's how I chose him out the Yellow Pages. I reckoned a urologist named Dr. Ball HAD to be good!

Ah, you poor, silly, deluded girl. It had nothing to do with LaPook being a doc, and everything to do with him being a buddy of affable Eva Braun -- who has driven her telecast back into third place among the networks already.

Mickey Kaus suggests that CBS was not actually expecting CBS News to improve. But they thought that if they pulled Colic off of the Today show, NBC's morning show would slump. So far, the plan seems to be working. Apparently, among the brain-dead that like TV talking heads, Matt Lauer is less likeable than Eva Braun.

I haven't seen any reason to own a TV in decades. I mean, all Katie and her ilk do is read a few lines that are a paraphrase of the morning's New York Times and Washington Post. If you scan the web pages of those two papers, you know everything CBS is going to tell you, and you even get the same slant.

Does this mean that we get to again see the inside of Katie's ass on a future episode of the CBS Evening News?

Good thing the Dr. isn't her gynecologist. Yeeeew.

I think that's the guy who narrated the self-check DVD released a few years back by Scrotum Productions? :O)
