Probe of Air Force Major's Disappearance From Kyrgyzstan Continues (fishy bizness)

WASHINGTON — The investigation into the case of a U.S. servicewoman who reappeared as mysteriously as she vanished will continue, a senior defense official said Tuesday, adding that something about her story didn't add up.

Air Force Maj. Jill Metzger, 33, vanished from a shopping mall in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Sept. 5. She resurfaced three days later when she knocked on the door of a house in Kant, about 22 outside Bishkek, and claimed she had been kidnapped.

Kyrgyz police said Monday that Metzger, who was serving a tour at the U.S. military base in Manas, gave confused accounts about her absence and refused to make further statements after consulting with the U.S. Embassy.

Metzger was flown out of Kyrgyzstan within a few hours of her reappearance and was admitted Sunday to a U.S. military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany. She was listed in good condition; officials had previously said she did not appear to have suffered serious injury during her disappearance.

The military said Metzger would be debriefed by a team of specialists and receive a medical checkup, but there was no immediate word on how long she would remain hospitalized.

I think this is a wait and see.

However, possibilities:
1) As stated,narcotic drug in her drink, bomb and note in her pocket, abduction for nefarious and unknown purposes; 2) nervous breakdown of previously reliable officer, breakdown manifests itself in strange action and delusions;
3) Romantic meeting and elopement with unknown dark stranger, second thoughts and attempt to return to real life using strange story;
4) Romantic liaison, threat of blackmail for military secrets, attempt to cover with confused story;
5)Possible kidnapping, ransom paid, use of improbable story as cover for payment of ransom.

Anyway, I hope that this was something done to her rather than something she did and that it will not result in disiplinary action. I suspect that her service career is over in any case.

KC-10 or KC-135?

Both...in aircraft maintenance...along with B-52s and F-16s before becoming an LRO.

My GUESS is that she found a boyfriend...one who was looking for intelligence

Yea, that would have been real smart. Slip off to see your new paramour, right after telling your 4 friends you'd rejoin them in a few minutes, in another part of the same store you were in at the time. They'd think nothing of your failure to return and would not notify the authorities or anything like that.

Right.

Don't forget - to the USAF, war is NOT to close in and destroy - it is only a means to "persuade" people to come together and talk over their troubles. As they teach at the USAF academy

Can't say about the Academy, but in AF ROTC, they taught us the purpose was to destroy the enemy and his ability to continue the fight. At Squadron Officer School it was pretty much the same, with some additional stuff about supporting the other services, like the Jarheads, in accomplishing their part of that effort. If the AF had it's druthers, there wouldn't be any enemy left to close with, they'd already be destroyed. But we know it rarely works out that way, thus the "support the other services" stuff.

Some people will just never get over losing their Space Available slot on a C-141 bound for Thailand.

Confused accounts could be explained by shock and most especially by language difficulties. I doubt the Major speaks Russian, or at least speaks it very well. I expect some of the Krygz police speak some English, but not well. Lots of room for confusion just in the language difficulties. When the embassy told her to shut up, she took the (very good) advice. Let the Embassy and the OSI deal with the Krygz authorities.

It's Aimee Semple McPherson redux. And once again, it's farce.

why not send Hillary? If they kidnapped her, she'd be returned soon enough.

The wouldn't kidnap her. They're crazy, not stupid. Well not that stupid anyway.

Anyone who's had a colonoscopic examination knows that there are mild, but otherwise hypnotic sedatives widely available that can leave you with confused memories, including periods a few days before the exam, and several days afterwards.

No doubt the "bad guys" in this world know such things.
