The Times' executive editor accuses the Bush White House of stirring up a "partisan hatefest" against the paper over its revelation of an anti-terrorist program that monitored international banking transactions.
Deep inside New York magazine's front-page profile of Times Executive Editor Bill Keller (ludicrously called a "true centrist" by writer Joe Hagan) is this gem about his reaction to White House criticism of the paper's exposure of its tracking of international banking transactions for terror clues:
"They pissed me off....I think the administration is genuinely distressed that we ran the story over their objections. I think they were embarrassed by it, by the fact that this most secretive of administrations has so much trouble keeping its secrets. I think they were probably sincere in their anxiety that publicizing this program might jeopardize it. And, you know, that's all fair, but when they stir up a partisan hatefest and impugn your integrity and patriotism, that is, to borrow a word from the White House list of talking points, disgraceful."

One would hope that the editor of the NYT would be able to make a defence of his efforts without resorting to profanity.
In the meantime, Keller has established he hates President Bush and America as much as Osama Bin Laden.

Better to be "pissed off" than "pissed on"......unless you're into that sort of thing.....
With a socialist Knob like Keller, I suppose that may be possible.

Was Keller similarly peeved over the Democrats and the 9/11 miniseries? Thought not...

The White House did not have to tell the citizens to dislike the NYT and consider it unpatriotic. We came to that conclusion all by ourselves.

I think they were embarrassed by it, by the fact that this most secretive of administrations has so much trouble keeping its secrets. I have never understood why the left views Bush as being "secretive." Maybe they are simply too fargin nosey...

Amazing. Out here in rural Missouri, I got a subscription solicitation letter from the NYT.
Why would I buy anything from this dog turd ?
To: shrinkermd
As far as I know, the White House hasn't stirrred up anything about the NY Times. The Times has done a pretty good job trashing it's own reputation.

So this is like the 4th or 5th made up excuse from Bill Keller explaining why he committed treason. The facts are HE knew full well that the Congress was fully in the loop and he simply could not stand seizing any excuse to publish something attacking President Bush.
The real fact is he is an extreme Political Lefty with an irrational hate of President Bush. He could care less if his conduct ends up killing thousands or millions of Americans. Nothing matters as long as he can vent his rabid partisan political bigotry.

Dear Bill - You ARE a traitor. You divulge national secrets in a time of war. So what part of your patriotism are we NOT supposed to impugn? Oh, and I picked up a new copy of Webster's Collegiate today. Under "disgraceful" it says: see also, Keller, Bill.

Dems going batty all over the place today; Bush must have hit a home run in his speech last night, and their internal polls are telling them so. Also, I bet the investigation into the NSA leak is heating up, and Keller is feeling the heat.

He knows the program is important and revealing it may jeopardize it, but goes ahead anyway after being personally asked by the President of the United States not to do it. What an unpatriotic, treasonous dirtbag. He expected that his actions wouldn't have consequences?

Keller needs to be in prison along with Risen and the other traitor who gave away national security secrets. They disclosed these secrets not because they should, because they shouldn't have, but because they could and they had the help of another treasonous bastard in the midst of the intelligence organizations all because of hate.
