Notoriously independent-minded Rhode Island Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee confronts stiff opposition Tuesday in his bid for a second term, the latest race with a moderate targeted by his own party's hard-line critics.

While a total of nine states and Washington, D.C., were holding primary elections, Chafee's race is drawing the most attention as another test of the depth of anti-incumbent sentiment and the erosion of the political middle ground.

I voted for Spencer too, so we're up to 5. Turnout seemed very low (especially among Republicans), so maybe that will be enough for him to win.

KT sent a last-minute direct mail brochure to voters with pictures of her and Ronald Reagan, by the way. I think it may have been a targeted mailing toward women, but I'm not sure. As far as I know, the New York Post didn't even endorse a Republican candidate for Senate - they only endorsed Spitzer (ick!) and Cuomo (yuck! - but better than the odious Mark Green).

Umm... not Karl Rove, of course. Baltimore County and Montgomery County Democrats are relatively largely black, and the Democratic establishment plainly does not want Mfume to win.

NOTE: While MoCo and BalmerCo have largely black, Democratic populations, I must point out (or else people will be pouncing all over me) that BalmerCo does NOT include Balmer City, and MoCo is the "whiter" of the two inner DC-area counties.

The leading local Rhode Island television station, WJAR-Channel 10, is reporting large primary turnouts, and has sent its top reporter Jim Taricani to Laffey headquarters for the evening (he just reported from there now, 5:00pm).

I hate to say it, but Ellison's denial of association with Farrakhan scores him a point in my book. How few Democrats would ever shy away from unpalatable constituents. Most would simply counter-attack, such as by saying, "You're just a racist to think I should apologize for locally organizing the Million Man March!"

True, his apology is self-serving (which doesn't mean it is or is not insincere), but sometimes the way that a man may suppose he serves himself says much about his own values.

Honestly? I could vote for a "good Muslim." A good Muslim might be delusional not to recognize his native religion has never been anything but a vehicle for Satanism, organized crime and terror, but he may be helpful in changing Islam for the better. The thing is he's a liberal, meaning he may be a "good Muslim," but he's a bad legislator.

Baltimore County is only 23% black and Montgomery County is only 16% black. Both counties are around 70% white.

I went out and voted here in Arizona for Len Munsil in the Republican Gubenatorial race over Don Goldwater (name over substance). I did 3 nights on phone banks for Len as we know him and his wife and kids. Len is a fine Christian conservative who would make a great governor - we're all watching the polls tonight in hopes of seeing Len gain the nomination.

Voted at 7:20 this morning.

Personally, I voted straight Republican--and I chose Van Hollen for AG. Nothing against Bucher, it was a really tough choice.

Where I live, we also had District Attorney and State Assembly primaries.

Just came back from voting for Spencer. The lady at the table was a Republican too. We were laughing when she said OH ME AND YOU MAKES TWO REPUBLICANS TODAY! LOL IT was pretty dead there.
