Islamic militants attempted to storm the U.S. Embassy in Damascus on Tuesday using automatic rifles, hand grenades and at least one van rigged with explosives, the government said. Four people were killed in the brazen attack, including three of the assailants. No Americans were hurt, and the attackers apparently did not breach the high walls surrounding the embassy's white compound in the city's diplomatic neighborhood.

Another staged terrorist act by the Syrian terrorist regime. Syria has been creating beasts to attack the US for many decades and then Syria tells the US “what do you give me to kill the beast?” Unfortunately one US administration after another fell for this deception but fortunately President Bush will not fall this.

It is not a favor when this whole attack is staged and created by the Baath terrorist regime in Damascus.

I think the attack indicates some infiltration of Syria, which is a Saddam-style police state. Simply for the sake of its own stability, and not to ingratiate itself with us, Syria does not want to encourage random terrorism.

I would be rather shocked if Syria allowed this kind of lawlessness in its streets. If it succeeded, it would give too many ideas to the wrong people.

Marvin Kalb (sp?) on Fox News said something to the effect that he was shocked, simply shocked that these terrorists got by so many obstacles on that highly secured street...So, we need to know more about that!!

.....Syria does not want to encourage random terrorism.....

There is a deeper and older principle at work. It has nothing to do with the relations between America nd Syria or Iran or Lebanon.

The diplomatic service depends on the safety of ambassadors. A nation that can't protect ambassadors is subpar.

It would be hard to believe that the Syrians didn't know about the attack. Police state, small street, heavily guarded, nobody breaks wind in this country that Asad doesn't know about it.

The same sort of attacks (albeit with less violence) were stage-managed by the Islamist government of Sudan in the nineteen nineties. When Khartoum wanted the U.S. off its back the attacks miraculously ceased.

It was not clear if any of the grenades made it over the walls, which are about 8 feet high.

It looks like the recruits are getting a little raw. Maybe all they're getting are women.

100% correct. Did we get any response form US officials on what they think about this? I hope that no one thanked Syrian terrorist regime for foiling this terrorist attack that was staged by the regime itself .

They can't throw a grenade over 8 feet? I'm not going to insult girls by comparing their throwing prowess to that of the terrorists.

More than likely they should send a letter to Assad demanding to know why he can't control his own country.

Oh here we go...Fodder for the Libs and their media lapdogs to scream "SEE, Syria and Iran are our FRIENDS!!!" Call me a cynical conservative, but I would not be the least surprise if this was a staged job by Assad and his cronies to take some American heat off them, after the Hezbollah/Lebanon fiasco. The Syrian government doesn't value human life...what's the sacrifice of four peons (who will be martyred anyway) to keep their dictatorship propped up?

Let's see where this one goes...
