I was bugged a bit by that but...

...if I'd been in his shoes and had been promising to deliver the goods
for $500/week...and then get cut off, the price does have a tendency to go up.

And he was probably wanting a big lump that could be parked around
the world in accounts accessible to his wife and family.
Because he knew there was a reasonable chance he might not survive his job.

Yes, he was being mercenary. But to a degree it was understandable.
You'd think if the FBI gave out that chunk of change for one informant,
Bubba would have said "We are gonna' kill that sumbitch Osama
and any man, woman or child standing inside the blast radius of the
bomb that splatters him".

But no...Clinton was just too "sensitive" for that sort of thing.
