Shanksville is not too far northwest of me and I was outside with my dad while he finished siding my house that day.
I could swear a military type plane went zooming west around that time but I have no idea if it was connected to Flight 93.
A lot of military planes go over here because we're under their approach path to the Martinsburg WV armory.
At 500+ mph and just a few minutes later, it could have crashed a lot closer to me than it did.
[we're in a direct line from there to DC]
It's a chilling thought.
For months before 9/11, I was having nightmares about a plane crashing in my dad's deer pasture, which never made any sense.
The whole morning of 9/11 had a weird, surrealistic feel to it.
It was too beautiful outside, the sun was too bright but the birds were all silent.
Very odd.

I was stunned that TV could be like this. It was truly excellent, from the evocative NYC scenes at the opening credits all through to the final shot of the man in the cloud of dust. Excellent pacing, too, and while I had some quibbles with emphasis on various characters, I thought it really was not, for once, designed as a Bush hit-piece.

Current ABC special: Post-911, where do we stand?Well, the promo started with a bunch of lies--"al-Qaeda, bigger stronger, posing a bigger threat than ever...".
And Pete King is an idiot. Ammonium nitrate IS NOT the al-Qaeda's choice of explosives. In fact, I can't think of a single al-Qaeda bombing that used ammonium nitrate.

Ya they made him look a hundred years old when he is more vibrant than any his age.
And they didn't miss a chance to make Condi appear to be the deer in the headlights.
Just some things that don't matter in the general scheme of things - I still think it was well done and will buy it when offered..

And if the Dems control things, what would the response be? I know exactly. The national Cathedral will become the national Mosque and the President will play second fiddle to the Imam of America.
We need some adults in Congress. We need Bush to be succeeded by an adult. The PC garbage needs to stop. But will it? I'm not hopeful.

I'd love to challenge Liberals on this one.The show at the end states that more needs to be done. The Libs will cry "see, Bush isn't doing enough ". I'd like to ask THEM what they would do and then make suggestions. "Round up ALL illegal Moslems in the US ?" Oh no we cant do that . R"racial profiling "/ Oh no we cant do that"/ Close the boarders ?" Oh no we can't do that " FRAUDs , the lot of them. we all better wake up soon . I dread to think what the next 9/11 will be like.

If anyone thinks that this president has not covered all the bases then think again. What happens ten, twenty, thirty years from now? Nuclear technology is not going away. Bio/chemical technology isn't either. The only chance we have against these mullah nuts is to free their people. George Bush is not only the greatest president of this generation, he is the greatest president, possibly, of all time.
The ONLY chance we have at heading off the WMD threat is to free these people so that they aren't beholden to some ideological threat.
The alternative is to be held hostage by fanatics with Nukes, or worse, to be burned alive.

In fact, I can't think of a single al-Qaeda bombing that used ammonium nitrate.
It was what they tried to use on the Millenium plot but got caught at the border with it. I'm guessing ABC won't mention that.

Other than the silly portrayal of Cheney and the pseudo hero Clarke (and the slanted 9/11 Commission stuff at the end), I thought it was REALLY good.

I got home very late from the Parish Counsel meeting. I saw the last 30 minutes of the film. If that was anything like the rest of tonights film. I dont think I could have stood watching it.

Would a separate "note comparing thread" be possible?
I honestly don't know all the fine points of the reality of the lead-up to 9/11 versus what was portrayed in this film.
