CNN is reporting that a UAL ATL-SFO flight is being diverted to Dallas after finding an unclaimed (unattached?) backpack prior to takeoff from Atlanta, as well as a Blackberry that does not belong to anyone on board.
The flight is presently over southern Oklahoma, and is being diverted to Dallas.
Could be nothing, but given the day today, better to err on the side of caution...
I don't understand. THey found this stuff prior to takeoff, but took off anyway? And now they're deciding that maybe it's a problem?
Thanks for posting the info, mhking.
I have a feeling we will hear about things like this a lot today.
My understanding from hearing the CNN report, was that the backpack was found prior to takeoff and the blackberry was found during flight.
Prayers this is nothing.
weird..
With the constraints of travel these days; and the costs; am beginning to think maybe future passengers should take 'qualifying tests' as to how to travel by air. . .
. . .if you fail. . .then drive yourself or take a bus.
Oh no.
I'm sure everyone is jumpy today
I heard this on the radio news. Came here to get the real news as it is available.
Thank you for posting!
Ditto that TOL. I'm listening/watching the FOX stream of the whole day. Simply amazing.
Does anyone believe the terrorists will try something on 9/11 again?
Yup. The first of many.
Yeah, jumpy is right. Was watching the streaming of 9/11 on CNN (and Fox) and flipped on the DVR to see what CNN live was showing and for a moment there, we thought that they were showing scenes from 9/11 about redirecting flights around the US, and then realized it was live. Gave us half a heart attack.
I heard earlier this morning that Penn Station in NY was cleared due to a bomb threat. Given the day, it's safe to assume that the nuts are out in full force.
Thank you, mhking.
Any punk who thinks it'd be funny to call in a bomb threat today needs to do SERIOUS jail time.
no i'm pretty sure the FBI and other federal agencies keep a close eye on foreign nationals. I don't think their is a real big threat of terror cells in the US anymore... a couple years ago yes. Home grown terrorist now thats a different issue. Wannabes and 5 month islamic converts scare me more than some professional cell out of pakistan. Believe it or not its tough to infiltrate into the US. Credit card statements, wiretaps, club memberships everything is monitored now on a database. Look how quickly they caught those 12 egyptian students. We don't mess around anymore. I'm sure this is nothing.
Have we been completely overrun with morons running our air travel system?
