Polish Prime Minster Jaroslaw Kaczynski said Sunday he has cleared the air with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and they would meet again in Berlin on Oct. 30.
He told reporters in Helsinki that a short meeting between the two was "very nice" and had allowed him to explain misunderstandings, which he claimed had been created by false media reports.
"We've managed to clarify some issues that were just a matter of misunderstanding. I noticed that the chancellor had learned something from the press that was complete nonsense."
He was referring to media reports that junior coalition partner the League of Polish Families was trying to erode rights that guarantee Poland's German minority a seat in parliament. Kaczynski heads the ruling Law and Justice party.
"The press wrote that I announced I would abolish some political rights, especially political rights for the national minorities and it is untrue... In spite of the fact that Poles do not enjoy the same rights in other countries, we will uphold those rights for national minorities in Poland."
Relations between the two nations have soured since Polish President Lech Kaczynski, a nationalist conservative, came to power and Germany began a gas pipeline project with Russia bypassing Poland both last year.
Adding to these recent tensions, German organizations representing Germans who were expelled from their Eastern European homelands after World War II have been trying to focus attention on their difficulties.
Kaczynski said he and Merkel mainly discussed future meetings and his October trip to Berlin would largely cover "government consultations with elements of an official visit."
Merkel told him she was one-quarter Polish, he said, but her father had changed his Polish surname 'Kaczmarczyk' to the more German-sounding 'Kasner' at the end of the 1930s.

I am talking about the structural aides Ireland recieved from the EU making it one of the most proserous countries in this world coming from a civil war ridden agricultural deveolping status that's quite an achievement - don't you think ?
Certainly it's an achievement of the Irish and the EU.
"Socialistic Dictatorships" ??? ah ok you're one of those.
Altruism ? The will to do good without looking at your benefits ?
Are you serious ?
Ireland built up it' own ecomony - it didn't need any help from the 4th Reich.
And what do you mean by "civil war ridden agricultural deveolping status"??? It has been 80 years sense our last Civil War (though the next one could be shortly, if Sinn Fein get into government...)!!!
I wrote: The EU is an emerging socialist dictatorship!!!!
You wrote: ah ok you're one of those.
What's that supposed to mean????? Europe is a socialist dictatorship plain and simple!!! Why the Hell is a Eurocrat posting on FR??? Isn't DU a better place for someone like you?? OH, and don't post to me in a smug tone, do you hear me????
You won't ram your Franco-German Empire down my throat!!!
We built up our own economy - handouts never help ecomonies, why are EU apologists posting on FR???
That's the "dictatorship with a human face" that Orwell spoke about.
(2) Conservatives don't support the EU - they support defensive alliances like NATO.
(3) Were it up to the EU, appeasing Islamic fascists - like Chamberlain appeased the late Reichskanzler - would be the order of the day. All useful European resistance against Islamic fascism has occurred outside the EU framework.
Yep, you explained it better than I did! :)
I lost it there... but imagine what it's like to listen to Germans take credit for Irish prosperity!!
Nope.
No of course not. It is up to you to have your very own impressions.
Some questions :
have you ever been in Europe or do you know anything about Europe but your prejudices ?
Did you look up what NATO is ?
Have you got the slightest clue what appeacement is ?
A you a learend person ?
Maybe a bit like listening to americans talking about having rebuild an protected germany....
germans don't like to hear that either.
The influx of Poles have been welcomed here as they come looking for opportunity, not euro-welfare statism. I don't consider myself european as they give me the creeps. Oh yeah, and I hope the US wins the ryder cup.
yeah building the infrastructure and granting large subsidies wasn't the reason for Intel and others to get settled in Dublin area, it was Jamesons and tin flutes....
(nothing against the later)
I've been to Europe many, many times. I've lived in Zurich, briefly. I've spent substantial time, for business and pleasure, in Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Slovenia and the Netherlands, you condescending assclown.
Did you look up what NATO is ?
I don't need to look up what NATO is. Family members of mine are officers in NATO command, you self-important ninny.
Have you got the slightest clue what appeacement is ?
Not only do I know what it is, I also, unlike yourself, know how to spell it, you supercilious clot.
And using the word "appeasement" is being nice. The EU's role in actively supporting Saddam Hussein's regime through the oil-for-food scams is now public knowledge.
A you a learend person ?
I don't consider myself a learned person. However, I do know now that my education is vastly superior to yours, Herr Besaenftiger.
Actually no, it was the young educated workforce willing to work hard to make it work and our low corporation tax - you know that tax you euro-weenies are constantly telling us we should raise? 26% in the Germany, 12.5% in Ireland - who do you think Intel are gonna choose?
I dunno.. is this website a conservative forum anymore? First we have Sinn Fein shills. Now we have EU apologists... they're telling us socialist subsidies, not free market reforms built Ireland... and the way they think we should just grovel in their presence....
:(
It was Tax-designated zones, the brainchild of Eire - you know, the things you Eurosocialists are trying to get rid of - that brought Intel to Ireland. If it was subsidies, then why didn't Intel establish it's European HQ in Germany?? I mean, that is what the EU is about - the Franco-German Pact trying to economically control the rest of western Europe.
I do not know why Rummenigge and Atlantic Bridge are posting at FR - they obviously believe that central economic planning builds economies, not the free market and they don't believe in Nation-State sovereignty, either.
(1) All governments everywhere encourage infrastructure investment through tax breaks. Unless they're stupid.
(2) Ireland has a well-educated and young workforce - all of whom speak fluent English.
(3) Ireland has low taxes across the board compared to other EU member states.
It was free market reforms by successive Irish governments from the 1980s onward, not your handouts - considering that your subsidies have near-crippled Irish agriculture, I am thankful we didn't rely on your Euro dole in other areas....
The difference here is that it is true that the Marshall Plan and the US Armed Forces were instrumental in rebuilding postwar Germany.
