I didn't know if there was a west coast version of this thread. It didn't make sense to post on a show that was almost over on the East Coast.
Whenever someone asks me that, I just say that he violates numerous UN resolutions, and that the 2003 war was a resumption of hostilities because he violated the cease-fire treaty from Gulf War I. Pretty simple.
Profound. THAT is good.
Excellent.
That is absolutely true! Bush didn't even have a complete cabinet yet. It is so easy for the damn Dims, with the complicity of the MSM, to completely ignore and distort history!
Perhaps they will mention how Gore, Clinton's whore, crippled our government with his uncalled for, traitorous, incessant whining about "hanging chad".
Besides, the most ignored fact of the whole war is this, and it's very simple. 9-11 was such a hateful wicked demonstration of evil on earth and what Islamic-fascist terrorists are like and how much they hate America, does anyone seriously believe that going into Iraq in March of 2003 and removing Hussein, a SECULAR Arab leader, really made the terrorists hate us more? Hate us more then they already had to have hated us in 2001 before we went into Iraq, in order to execute the 9-11-01 attacks??? Anyone who thinks that going into Iraq made the terrorists hate us more then they hated us when they did what they did on 9-11-01, well, anyone who thinks that needs some serious medication and therepy with a trained psychologist, because that line of reasoning demonstrates a CLEAR disconnect with reality and a total inability to rationalize and think logically.
Super patriots indeed. And talk about ZERO EGO! Glamourless job with ZERO appreciation, and they are utterly and completely essential to protecting the country. The intelligence and law enforcement industry do more in a day to protect this country then any politician in 20 years would do in saying that we're not safer since 9-11.
The fact that Hussein's military was firing at U.S. and British patrol craft WEEKLY the whole decade from 1992 through 2003 is enough for me to have supported going to war in Iraq. Last time I checked, firing at a nations planes was an act of war when it happened one time, one day. Hussein had his military do that hundreds of times over the course of 11 years, and we were authorized by the U.N. to fly there to protect civilians from attacks by Hussein. We should have gone in and removed Hussein by force in the early 90s the first time he fired on one of our planes patroling the no fly zone. But that would have required Clinton taking his testicles back from his wife so of course it never happened.
Agreed. I've love to see the CIA or some other agency give one oftheir top agents a plastic surgery job to look just like Jack Bauer. He wouldn't have to do much...
I haven't read the thread so sorry if I'm repeating things but I watched the movie after all the football was over and here are my impressions:
The storyline seems a bit jumbled although the point that comes across is that a lot of field-level people were trying to get the upper administration's attention and failing to do so.
Fair is fair. We tend to give GWB a pass because 9-11 happened only eight months into his presidency but the first WTC bombing took place only one month into the Clinton presidency. And, to be honest, other warning signs were clear before even the first WTC bombing. Failing to take seriously the threat if Islamic terrorism has been a failure of both Democrat and Republican administrations and if somehow 9-11 were thwarted, we'd probably still be asleep at the switch when it comes to protecting ourselves.
I thought we turned down Osama when he was in Sudan, not Afghanistan. Even with artistic license, I think that's a major factual blunder.
The timeline keeps jumping around. We're in 2001, no we're in 1993, no we're in 1999, no we're in 1995, no we're back to 2001. It makes it very hard to follow the story.
The guy they found to play Mohammad Atta looks too nice. They needed someone who looks like Dracula - like his well-circulated ID photo.
I wonder if they will show the time Atta tried to get a small business loan and starts making threats.
I can see why the Democrats would look at it as a smear job. Dragging the whole Lewinsky thing into it was bound to set their hairs on end even if the rest of it wasn't blatantly political. It's not really political other than it was a Democrat administration calling the shots at the time and basically not taking the threat seriously.
As for the movie itself, I HATE the cinematic style. The fast-paced, blurry jumpy can't-you-just-hold-the-damn-camera-still-for-two-seconds type of cinematography just gives me a major headache. Couple that with the too-close-for-comfort close-ups and I probably would have walked out on this if it were being shown in a movie theatre. Since it was on tv, I could stand up, walk around, take some advil, etc. Because of the important nature, I hung in there to watch the whole 2-1/2 hours but it was not easy. They probably could have whittled an hour of extraneous shots out of this and made it a much tighter script.
BUMP to remember what you said! Great points.
Thank you. I confess that I don't make it to fellowship every week, but I couldn't miss the Sunday before 9/11. This is a generally conservative fellowship, and I always hear something that is especially meaningful ... especially when I hear what I don't expect. But this just hit me like a ton of bricks. Oddly, Rich Galen (Mullings.com) quotes the verses our pastor also addressed, in Genesis where God tells Abraham: Genesis 12:1-3 conform, generally, to the Standard Revised King James: 1: Now the Lord said to Abraham, "Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. 2: And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.
Very good post and excellent points. I agree with all of them.
I think a lot of us have been stunned in general at the level of fight the Clintonistas put up against this movie. I too think the attention on Democrats was a miscalculated backfire on their part.
Beautifully and clearly stated.
(Bump.)
Me too. If someone had assassinated Clinton I would have cried. Not for the man, but for the presidency. Our American elected leader. Like them or hate them, they are ours and no one should dare try to hurt them.
And all the flag burning tonight -- I was wondering how horrible it must be to shoot those scenes. Maybe they have non-Americans do it just so American actors don't have to.
