JAY [Rockefeller] SAYS America safer WITH SADDAM in power

(CBS) When the Senate Intelligence Committee released a declassified version of its findings this past week, the Republican chairman of the committee, Pat Roberts, left town without doing interviews, calling the report a rehash of unfounded partisan allegations.

Its statements like this one, made Feb. 5, 2003, by then-Secretary of State Colin Powell that have become so controversial, implying Iraq was linked to terror attacks.

"Iraq today harbors a deadly terrorist network headed by abu Musab al-Zarqawi, an associated collaborator of Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda lieutenants," Powell said.

But after 2 1/2 years of reviewing pre-war intelligence behind closed doors, the lead Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, Sen. John Rockefeller (D-W.V.), who voted for the Iraq War, says the Bush administration pulled the wool over everyone's eyes.

"The absolute cynical manipulation, deliberately cynical manipulation, to shape American public opinion and 69 percent of the people, at that time, it worked, they said 'we want to go to war,'" Rockefeller told CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson. "Including me. The difference is after I began to learn about some of that intelligence I went down to the Senate floor and I said 'my vote was wrong.'"

Rockefeller went a step further. He says the world would be better off today if the United States had never invaded Iraq — even if it means Saddam Hussein would still be running Iraq.

He said he sees that as a better scenario, and a safer scenario, "because it is called the 'war on terror.'"

This evening, my senator, sen Jay Rockefeller, in an interview with CBS evening news, accused Bush of manipulating intelligence, and suggested that America and Iraq would be safer if Saddam Hussein was still in power.

He also said his vote regarding the war was a mistake.

I wondered how long it would take for a high-profile lib to say this. I also have been waiting for a clamour to re-instate Saddam by the libs ala Aristide and Haiti.

And he was the ONLY ONE who said Iraq was an "Imminent Threat"

On the Senate Floor, to boot!

YOU know...youre right..he DID say that..I'd forgotten.

Ive met the man several times, and thought him an opportunistic boob, but I never really contemplated how vile he really is until now.

If Saddam brought "stability" to Iraq with his Iron Thumb that he kept his people (and terrorists) down under, then maybe it just means that we should ramp up on exhibitions of strength and release those from the Abu Ghraib scandal.

I swear, these wusses in Congress support a dictator like Saddam and spit on the President of the United States.

West Virginia senator Jay Rockefeller said on the CBS evening news on Saturday that America was safer with Saddam in power.

Of course he feels that having a Republican POTUS makes us less safe also.....

Jay is busy making the environment our troops face in Iraq much more dangerous for them.

He should be picked up and stuffed in a cell for the duration (which is what President Wilson would have done with this schmuck).

Yeah, but how about Iraq, Iraq wasn't safer with Saddam in charge. Nobody gets grabbed off the streets and thrown into woodchippers feet first any more. The rape rooms have been closed down.

The US did not go into Iraq to make America safer. The difference it made to our internal security was minute and extremely marginal at best. We went to Iraq to enforce the letter of the various UN resolutions which had been passed, and on the basis of intelligence which Jay Rockefeller himself had concluded meant that Iraq was within five years or so of producting an atomic weapon. That weapon would never have threatened any American city, but Tel Aviv and Teheran were both in great danger once such a device was operational.

SADDAM says, Iraq safer with Jay Rockhead in power. OMG could you believe that even Saddam would say something so frigging ridiculous?

Hey, it's not too late to bring him back. The Iraqis haven't hung him yet. If this is the way the Democrats want to go, they should say so. "Vote for us, and we'll not only cut and run, we'll put Saddam back in office on our way out."

John Raese, who is running some excellent campaign commercials in his race against senator Byrd, should latch onto this.

He ought to ask Byrd in a commercial if he agrees or disagrees with Jay..and find a few free Iraqis to sit in the same room with him when he asks the question.

I think it would be hard-hitting.
