Via the ABC News blog “Political Punch” comes this message from Michael Scheuer on The Path to 9/11 controversy.
“This morning we received an email from Michael Scheuer, former chief of the Osama bin Laden Unit at the CIA’s Counterterrorist Center (and the previously “Anonymous” author of “Imperial Hubris”) who is clearly no fan of either the Bush nor the Clinton Administrations — nor the 9/11 Commission. He writes the following:
“This whole business over ABC’s movie is amazing. Now Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. and a pack of political whores who pass themselves off as ‘historians’ have come out four-square for pre-publication censorship.
“As I have told you, the core of the movie is irrefutably true: the Clinton administration had 10 chances to capture of kill bin Laden. Had the 9/11 Commission not whitewashed events, personal culpability would have been assigned and we as a nation could have moved on to fight al-Qaeda. The Commission turned out to be hack-dominated, however, and ignored the documents that were presented to them, as well as the testimony it received under oath. Instead of telling the American people that the intelligence regarding bin Laden, al-Qaeda and their intentions was abundant, precise, and not acted on, the Commissioners blamed ‘the structure of the intelligence community’ for the failure and then proceeded to wreck the community with a horrendous reform package.
“The solution is really quite simple, I think. Declassify the documents and testimony of the men and women who risked their lives to collect the intelligence that Clinton and his lieutenants failed to act on. Present this information to the American people — and perhaps put some of those officers on TV to answer questions — and then let the chips fall where they may. If the critics of the ABC movie are so confident they are right, they would surely welcome this process.”
Hurrah! Bring it on Bubba! You’ve got the time? We’ve got the facts. Let’s get it all out!
But the way people were treated will linger long after next week
is a 22-year CIA veteran. He served as the Chief of Alec Station, the Osama bin Laden Unit at the Counterterrorist Center from 1996 to 1999. He then worked again as Special Advisor to the Chief of the bin Laden unit from September 2001 to November 2004. He was also in charge of drafting the original rendition process (Swiss senator Dick Marty's report on US rendition facilities in Europe) under Clinton.[citation needed] He resigned from the CIA in 2004. He is currently a News Analyst for CBS News as well as a Terrorism Analyst for the Jamestown Foundation's online publication Global Terrorism Analysis.[1]
In the 9/11 Commission Report, Scheuer is featured in Chapter 4, where his name is given only as "Mike". He is portrayed as occasionally frustrated with his superiors' failure to aggressively target bin Laden.
I resigned from an Agency I love in order to publicly damn the feckless 9/11 Commission, which failed to find any personal failure or negiligence among Intelligence Community leaders even though dozens of serving officers provided the commisioners with clear documentary evidence of that failure." [4]
"[T]he crux of my argument is simply that America is in a war with militant Islamists that it cannot avoid; one that it cannot talk or appease its way out of; one in which our irreconcilable Islamist foes will have to be killed, an act which unavoidably will lead to innocent deaths; and one that is motivated in large measure by the impact of U.S. foreign policies in the Islamic world, one of which is unqualified U.S. support for Israel." [5] The book also documents a number of areas in which Scheuer believed Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein cooperated. [6]
"In Sudan, Bin Laden decided to acquire and, when possible, use chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) weapons against Islam's enemies. Bin Laden's first moves in this direction were made in cooperation with NIF [Sudan's National Islamic Front], Iraq's intelligence service and Iraqi CBRN scientists and technicians. He made contact with Baghdad with its intelligence officers in Sudan and by a [Hassan] Turabi-brokered June-1994 visit by Iraq's then-intelligence chief Faruq al-Hijazi; according to Milan's Corriere della Sera, Saddam, in 1994, made Hijazi responsible for "nurturing Iraq's ties to [Islamic] fundamentalist warriors. Turabi had plans to formulate a "common strategy" with bin Laden and Iraq for subverting pro-U.S. Arab regimes, but the meeting was a get-acquainted session where Hijazi and bin Laden developed a good rapport that would "flourish" in the late 1990s." "Funny how we don't see Scheuer on t.v. these days isn't it"
I know. He agrees with the libs much of the time too.
I'm remembering the Clinton people that sat on the 9-11 Commission wagging their fingers, especially Gorelick.
bttt
I just got back from the video store and saw on the shelf a just released movie called "The 9/11 Commission Report." It is a dramatization. They were out of them so I couldn't rent it to view. I looked up the info about the movie..check this out > http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0840272/
Does anyone know anything about this movie? Jamie Goreleck is a character is this movie.
Good for him. His second letter regarding this movie and it should be sent to ABC, the producer, and all conservative news organizations.
oops, meant to say TRUTH for true!
Does it not strike you as odd that not a single member of the MSM has come out in support of ABC? And, by extension, the First Amendment.
Either they a.) would all throw the First Amendment overboard simply to further the left's political agenda, or b.) are all scared $hitless of what the Democrats will do if they ever regain power.
Either conclusion is very instructive, I should think.
And not a little frightening...
Ticking them off?
Or scaring them $hitless?
That's weird. It's still in production according to what I read and yet if it's available for rental, then there is some movie out there.
Scheuer's characterization of Arthur Schlesinger Jr. as a political whore is absolutely correct.
Scheuer should be regarded as a hero for challenging the lies that powerful figures such Clinton, Albright and Berger are spreading about Path To 911. Men such as Scheuer and LTC Buzz Patterson should be commended for stepping forward and defending the truth that the Path To 911 presents.
As for Scheuer and his views of Israel, well, he has been critical of Israel, that's true, but that hardly makes him an "Arabist". He has also been very critical of some of our so-called Arab allies. Here is but one example of that:
He [SCHEUER] said to NPR that Mearsheimer and Walt are basically right. Israel, according to Scheuer, has engaged in one of the most successful campaigns to influence public opinion in the United States ever conducted by a foreign government. Scheuer said to NPR that "They [Mearsheimer and Walt] should be credited for the courage they have had to actually present a paper on the subject. I hope they move on and do the Saudi lobby, which is probably more dangerous to the United States than the Israeli lobby.
Rapist42's ballsack... just got kicked up into his throat!
It's out there as of 9/5. There were 6 copies in the store but they were all signed out. (I suppose that folks are mistaking it for the Path to 911 movie.)
