ABC's "Path to 9/11" Still Clear

******************************EXCERPTS**************************

*************************************

Sep 8, 2006, 8:00 PM PT

Don't believe the hype. Or believe it. Either way, don't decide either way until you've watched all five hours.

That's pretty much the gist of ABC's message to potential viewers of the network's two-part miniseries The Path to 9/11, which airs commercial-free Sunday and Monday. (Ironically there will now be a 20-minute break Monday at 9 p.m. to accommodate a speech from President Bush.)

While ABC has stated that the $40 million production is still in the editing process and is being slightly tweaked in response to concerns that it unfairly attacks the Clinton administration for failure to act on terrorist threats in the years leading up to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the network has not bowed to pressure from former Cabinet members and left-wing groups to "dump," "yank" or otherwise pull the movie from the schedule.

The Democratic National Committee, for one, submitted a petition signed by 200,000 people calling for ABC to drop the "right-wing, factually inaccurate mocudrama." The Center for American Progress Action Fund announced it had collected 25,000 letters asking for either a heavy edit or a cancellation. "The miniseries presents an agenda that blames the Clinton administration for the 9/11 attacks while ignoring numerous errors and failures of the Bush administration," the advocacy group said in a statement.

Conservative blogs, meanwhile, are putting up a spirited defense. And Rush Limbaugh seems to have high hopes for the miniseries, saying during his radio show last week: "From what I've been told, the film really zeros in on the shortcomings of the Clinton administration." He said today, "What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a mob-like reaction from partisan hacks to intimidate an American broadcast network."

I saved the whole page so when the Clintonistas see it and bury it, we will have a record.

By the way, a pig just flew by my window...

The boys and girls on FNC are really trashing this film this morning. They are relieved that the Clintonistas are on the verge of having this film pulled. Whether the film is shown now is irrelevant. The DemocRATS are editing out anything critical of the DemocRATS. They were able to get their lawyers Dick Benveniste and Jamie Gorelick on the laughable and very hilarious "911 Commission" and now they have Willie Clinton himself in ABC's editing room. What a joke. Welcome to the DemocRATS' New America.

If I remember right, didn't the NY Times come out with an editorial in support of this series? Does anyone have a link to it?

Then "The Path to 9/11" leaves the viewer with a chilling coda: a recap of the "report card" issued last December by the 9/11 Commission, which accused the government of failing to protect the nation against another attack, and assigned failing grades in five areas, with a dozen Ds and just one A (actually, A-minus).

#####

That is interesting, because I have heard the screenwriter of this program on many radio shows, and thought he has said that the film stops at September 11, 2001.

However, he also said yesterday that he had anticipated criticism from the Right, and was surprised that the Left "got out in front first."

I guess the "Coda" that MSNBC refers to is pure editorial comment placed at the end of the second night.

I also wonder if this was meant to be anti-Bush administration in its total message, until Richard Ben Veniste got upset at the private screening, and changed the focus of the coverage of this past week.

Raise your hands anyone who thought that ABC/Disney would spend 40 million dollars on something that would be favorable to President Bush, two months before the mid-term elections.

I think the thing that disturbs me the most is that the producers did not put in the part where the Clintonistas sent Sandy Burglar into the National Archives to steal documents that would support the fact that the incompetent Clintonista regime set up 911 for the terrorists by not getting bin Laden when they had the chance. I continue to hear about the "911 Commission." Anyone who takes that fiasco seriously is a real, mindless buffoon. The Clintonistas had two of their lawyers sitting on that commission to protect Willie Clinton's "legacy." What a joke.

Okay, this a little off topic, but here's a dynamic I haven't heard mentioned.

Sunday night, first night of mini-series, supposedly critical of Clinton.

Monday night, second night, supposedly critical of Bush administration.

Has anybody considered that football season begins this week. Sunday night there will be a game on ESPN, Indianapolis and the Giants. But Monday night there will be two games Minnesota/Washington early in the evening, 7:15 Eastern, and then a later game at 10:15 Eastern, San Diego and Oakland.

Will more people watch the show on Sunday night or Monday night? I have my opinion, and I think that's one of the reasons the Clintonistas are yelling so loudly.

And continue to, five years after what should have been a terribly sufficient wake-up call.

That is the message the left wants us to take from the edited version of this movie.

How inconvenient for them that we haven't been attacked again in those five years.

Democratic response to this is due to their shock and consternation that liberal press/ networks are not playing their handmaidens here. It's not the Bush administration that is trying to exercise prior restraint over what will undoubtedly be less than laudatory treatment; we expect that. It reminds me of a scene from Clinton's early years that has long been forgotten. It was just after the Brock and L.A. Times articles had come out based on the Arkansas troopers accounts of the Toon's liasions, including Paula Jones'. I believe Toon was in Russia of all places, and Jim Iklikewski(I know I mangled the spelling) of NBC news asked him for a comment. Toon got up from the table, ripped his headphones off, threw them down and bleated "the supposedly liberal press..." If he had taken that as cautionary, he never would have gotten going with Lewinski 2 or 3 years later.

I just pray an unedited "Directors Cut" DVD will at least hit the market.

I think there was a thread about bootleg DVDs of the uncut product
already being sold...overseas.

There are those in the Left or MSM with enough sense to not demand Clinton whitewashing. However, most of these embrace a misconception about the War on Terror. They measure our safety by the number of defensive measures taken, sometimes laughably ignoring the disuption of terror plots in the making, which is by far the most important thing to focus on. No matter what we do defensively, it will still be possible for evil to be done. So yes, we are not safe, but have a little skepticism about how inspecting more containers is going to do it.
