CA: Schwarzenegger's New Vetoes Favor Biz Community
KQED ^ | Sept. 7, 2006 | John Myers

It's shaping up to be a good day for interest groups representing the business community, as Governor Schwarzenegger vetoes four bills that his news release pegs as "job killing."

The proposals deal with everything from corporate taxes to on-the-job paycheck discrimination for women, to unemployment compensation. More than anything, they are alike in the fact that their opponents include some of the governor's long-time supporters in the business community, most notably the California Chamber of Commerce.

"We must remain vigilant in improving our business climate," said Schwarzenegger in a written statement.

I am returning AB 1884 without my signature. This bill is identical to legislation I vetoed last year. A basic principle of unemployment insurance is that benefits are intended for workers who have lost their job through no fault of their own. Allowing workers who strike to receive unemployment benefits is inconsistent with that principle. Furthermore, the provisions of this bill essentially require the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund to subsidize strike actions. I cannot support such a requirement.

Of course not, but that won't matter to people around here.

Arnold was emasculated last year by the special election, but he's still good for one thing: blocking.

Also, however, I wouldn't worry about pimping Arnold around here. Most people around here won't listen, but he'll win easily anyway. I'm guessing it'll be Arnold 54-46.

Doesn't matter. I satill say that Arnold is a girly man. And he would have signed them if it werent so close to election time. Let him win election, and then, after election time, watch him make it up to the Democrats by signing into law bills that are the same or very similar to the ones he vetoed.
