All I'm saying is a word of caution about the value of anonymous free advice was warranted.
Best of luck to the patient, best of luck to you.
Carry on...
Except that if this person were to be given another transfusion of O+ blood in the future, there could be a reaction.
When you have a loved in crisis situation, you need to understand what is going on. The nurses are best asset. Research is vital.
An MD behind the name is just two letters. I have heard crap from MD's that - had I followed my natural impulse would have ended me up in jail; when some snot nosed kid with an MD asked about a DNR on my FIL.
I will never forget it.
My FIL is blind and experiencing dementia. He had a health incident and we took him to the ER. The attending asked us about a DNR (never checking that we had explicit instruction on file.)
This dumass informed us. "Well, he doesn't have much of a life."
Yes, the only reason I did not get locked up that night, is for the sake of my wife, who had all she could deal with. BTW, that was 5 years ago. And the old man still has much of a life.
I'm pretty sure in a squeeze he could take O+....
We have several Drs on FR and lots of nurses.
O can receive All blood types
Wait till you hear about some of the bozos I've seen on the internet :~)
Carry on :~)
Here you go.
No. Positive cannot donate blood (whole) to negative. (The reverse is possible.) Plasma is OK.
Boring
Prayers for Maria Bush's hubby.
Almost every blood bank will take donations to be designated in the name of someone and they work together with other blood banks across the country.
In other words, if your local blood bank has o- blood, they can ship it to your local blood bank or hospital where needed. They will accept a donation of the same type, and depending on their own area needs, other blood types. They then ship their already processed units while starting to process yours.
Keep in mind that while this is common procedure in many cities, it may not be true in yours.
Hope this helps.

I am also in the Atlanta area, and am also O-, and would also be more than happy to add a pint of mine, especially when we have another Freeper in the same area (wouldn't it be easier to coordinate sending the pints together?) I know how scary it is, I had to receive 2 pints in Alabama about 4 years ago because of an awful miscarriage. Luckily, there was plenty in supply, and I pray for the person who donated it, because he/she saved my life (both units were from the same person, must have been a frequent donor!) By all means let me know where to go to donate, in order to facilitate transport. I will be praying for him.
bttt
My mother nearly bled to death in the mid 1950s, she had the same type of blood. We lived in a small town, with a small hospital. They asked for blood over the radio and people with O- rushed to the hospital to help her. Luckily she survived and lived another 45 years.
I know that today they don't normally give a transfusion straight from one person to another. However, if she or the family signs a waiver of some sort, maybe the hospital will use their brains and hearts instead of cowering in fear of lawyers.
Hey, we FREepers know better than any of them dopey doctors. And our advice is free of charge too.
Let me tell you about the time I pulled out my own appendix with nothing more than an average can opener, using step by step freepmailed instructions from a long since banned freeper.... ;-)
Just looked it up in one of my textbooks...
O- is the universal donor. AB+ is the universal recipient.
Wow, that doc was an a$$. I'm at a lose for words. He's lucky he still has his teeth.
Darn, I have O+, wife has AB-, and kids are A+ and B. Otherwise I would donate some.
My wife used to get calls from the Red Cross whenever there was someone who really needed type AB- blood. It would depress her so much when she would go in and they refused to take any because she was slightly anemic.
