The DNC needs a new set of legal hounds because they just broke the law. Namely the Laymen Act of 1999:
"The Lanham Act defines the statutory and common law boundaries to trademarks and service marks. Trademarks (and service marks) are words or designs used in the advertising of goods and services. Rights to use a trademark are defined by the class(es) for which the trademark is used. Therefore, it is possible for different parties to use the same trademark in different classes. The Lanham Act defines the scope of a trademark, the process by which a federal registration can be obtained from the Patent and Trademark Office for a trademark, and penalties for trademark infringement. The Legal Information Institute provides Title 15 of the US Code, which encompasses the Lanham Act."
So how? By registering the Trademarked name owned by ABC of The Path to 9/11, so that if you type direct your browser to pathto911.com, you end up at Democrats.org and a web form to complain to ABC about the movie. The absence of the "the", I don't think will buy them a pass.
When checking our Feedburner statistics a few minutes ago, something jumped out at me. It's not often that we see cancelled campaigns in RSS (or in web advertising in general), especially from larger organizations or agencies. The reasoning is simple - it's *expensive* to plan large campaigns, so ABC nixing this ad is all the more depressing.
(I should also add that if I had to guess, the person tasked with cancelling this ad far outranks the person who booked it in the first place.)
UPDATE: To be clear, I've thought a little more about this - and the explanation may well be simpler than the conclusion I jumped to. I haven't checked the current air date lately, but if they've delayed the premier date of the program, that would explain the cancellation.
Absolutely stunning.
The Democrats are going ape over this. They have always behaved like hysterical little children but now they have turned "creepy". This ABC movie has apparently really hit close to home with them.
Lanham? Laymen? which is it?
Ping...
Check THIS out...Layman Act of 1999
It's unbelievable...soviet style actions by the rat crowd.
As Rush says there are original copies out there and it will be shown somewhere. F! ABC.
Whoaaa.......
I just copied what was at the web site...his mistake.
It's THE SHOW everyone is talking about--why spend money on ads when the show isn't going to be selling spots during the showing? You're tossing out money when you have all the free publicity in the world.
I think they could have a hell of a market. I'd buy it just to piss of dems.
I saw. I told Mac about it a few hours ago. He said he contacted ABC but I guess he got angrier as the day went on and decided to post about it.
Yep .. right to the DNC petition page:

This is turning into a real serious food fight .. LOL.
This started in earnest yesterday after Bill Clinton complained about the film. What is it with Clinton, that he doesn't seem to be on top of his game unless he's emersed in some crisis or scandal? This is characteristic of someone who is deeply dysfunctional. And what is it with the Democrat Party and the left in general that they all start salivating whenever Bill Clinton brings a bell? This Pavlovian response indicates a level of dysfunction and codependency that is truly disturbing.
I agree...everyone knows about it after the unintended ad campaign by the rat crowd. LOL...why pay...this is all free... ;o)
