Senate Dems Threaten Disney's Broadcast License
national review from the senators ^ | September 7, 2006 | Sens. Reid, Durbin, Stabenow, Schumer...

Posted on 09/07/2006 7:46:18 PM PDT by george76

Sens. Reid, Durbin, Stabenow, Schumer, and Dorgan sent a letter to Disney today containing the following passages:...

Presenting such deeply flawed and factually inaccurate misinformation to the American public and to children would be a gross miscarriage of your corporate and civic responsibility to the law, to your shareholders, and to the nation.

The Communications Act of 1934 provides your network with a free broadcast license predicated on the fundamental understanding of your principle obligation to act as a trustee of the public airwaves in serving the public interest.

We urge you, after full consideration of the facts, to uphold your responsibilities as a respected member of American society and as a beneficiary of the free use of the public airwaves to cancel this factually inaccurate and deeply misguided program.

We look forward to hearing back from you soon.

Reid is an embarassment to Mormons as Clinton is an embarassment to Baptists and Kennedy is an embarassment to Catholics.

Wow, the Democrats seem to be suffering from panic here. What are they afraid of? Oh, yes -- the American public will be reminded of what spineless cowards made up the Clinton Administration. Poor Democrats, they may actually lose some voters in November from this.

The Justice Department should go after the Senators who threaten ABC/Disney with such blackmail.

No way ABC can resist this kind of pressure. Instead, they'll broadcast highlights from the 2004 Gay Games.

The good thing about this...

We now have free reign to censor Michael Moore's next movie.

Right, right...?

Nah, that's covered by the First Amendment unlike criticism of democrats.

Sounds like a thinly-veiled threat to pull a broadcast license by these senate dems.....

Can anyone say abuse of power?

They should be sued for this at least. This is an outrage and should disqualify them from office. They are telling the American people, You will NOT hear versions of history other than what WE allow, and we will use the power of the government to punish you if you disobey. They are unhinged and totally unethical.

Does the network even have a broadcast license? Individual stations have them (and I know Disney owns some of those stations), but I don't think the network needs one.

I guess that Sens. Reid, Durbin, Stabenow, Schumer, and Dorgan aren't going to let the First Ammendment get in the way of their agenda. Aren't these the usual suspects accusing President Bush of shredding The Constitution?

This is going to be a defining moment in the mid-term elections.

The democrats are displaying their true colors and are attempting to control what is disseminated to the masses, not unlike Pravda.

I live in America, if the democrats don't like the messenger, let's see them for ABC to cease broadcast operations.

Do I expect ABC to cave, yes. Does that change the fact that this issue is a gift wrapped in hypocrisy delivered to the Republicans? The simple answer is no.

Bring it on Harry Reid and those of your ilk. You pompous ass.
