How to get back at China

South Korean protesters tear a Chinese flag in front of the Chinese embassy in Seoul September 7, 2006. China published books and articles recently which claim that Korea's Koguryo Kingdom (37 B.C. - 668 A.D.) and Palhae (698-926), which had occupied today's northern part of the Korean peninsula and the northeastern region of China, were part of China's ancient territory. South Korean Vice Foreign Minister Lee Kyu-hyung said on Wednesday that South Korea would take diplomatic steps to cope with China's attempts to distort Korea's history, local media reported. The flag reads,'Stop distortion of history'. REUTERS/You Sung-Ho (SOUTH KOREA)

This is not good. China usually went to war only over territory they claimed to be part of their original territory. Their entry into the Korean War was viewed as a threat to their borders when the UN forces reached the Yalu, but they left after the armistice. But then again, if they want part of Korea especially the North, they may be able to help the starving people and improve their condition.

Being familiar with Chinese dynastic history, how could they claim that? Han, Tang and Ming never touched that region. Manchurians may have but they were not Chinese and they eventually conquered China by defeating the Ming Dynasty. During Manchurian rule, Korea acknowledged the Machurians as their protectorate but they always maintained their independence until Japan annexed her in 1911. That same year the Chinese overthrew the Manchu dyanasty and established a short lived American style republic. The borders of the republic never enchroached on the Korean territories referenced.

Does China ever do anything to help people? Seems to me life is considered a cheap and renewable resource to that govt.
