It is sad to report, but a local parish in the Victoria, Tx Diocese invited UT professor Robert Jensen to speak to the faithful at the end of September.
I have contacted the church office and informed them of Jensen's views on abortion and homosexuality, but they have not decided to cancel his appearance.
I have initiated an email campaign to urge Catholics to call the parish and the diocese and ask why someone with his views would be invited to speak.
I have not determined yet whether he will receive payment, nor whether the Bishop knows about his views.
I will post updates as I get them.
Thanks!
That is a good question! When I notified them about his views on Iraq, (he wrote an article calling for the US to be defeated) as well as abortion and homosexuality, they still went ahead.
I am working to find out whether or not he will be financially compensated and whether the priests and bishop know about his views.
What is this guy supposed to be speaking about?
What is the parish and where is it located exactly?
and Georgetown (Jesuit university) invited Katahni to speak there next week. If this guy had his way, the good fathers at Georgetown would be the first ones beheaded.
Idiots.
Ping
I think the local Bishop needs to be made aware of this.
Salvadoran authorities have gotten nto the bottom of this!
He's an author of racist hate literature.
Whoops! Wrong thread!
Disgraceful! You have done everything you should do. Catholics should contact Catholic officials and inform them of the views of invited guests in these sorts of instances and that it is morally wrong to allow such people to use the church as a pulpit. Good work!
I "met" Prof. Robert Jensen when he came to make an anti-war speech at Auburn University a couple of years ago. I challenged him on his "facts" and called him a liar during the Q/A session that followed his tirade. Our conversation got quite heated before my mic was turned off by the moderator - the liberal head of the journalism department.
Jensen is scum.
Contact some well known lay and clerical Catholics so they can also publicize this news to their readers and/or parishes . I am thinking of John Neuhaus at First Things, George Weigel, Bishop Chapute of Denver, Amy Welborn, Bishop Burke and other Catholics who do not brook nonsense like the invite to this speaker. You might also get in touch with the local Knights of Columbus.
Here is the church that Jensen is speaking at:
Holy Family of Joseph, Mary
and Jesus Church
704 Mallette Drive
Victoria, Texas 77904
(361) 573-5304 (office)
I was informed this morning that Jensen is still scheduled to speak about the war, the media and conflict.
Apparently my Bishop, who is a great man, was informed about Jensen's views. I am not sure why an atheist, pro-abortion, homosexual Leftist is qualified to speak with the official sanction of the Church.
I just spoke with Sister Digna. Mr. Jensen has been disinvited. He had been scheduled to give a talk on the media at their catechetical (sp) conference. At the time he was invited the Diocese was unaware of his pro abortion- pro homosexual stance.
By the way Jensen is the person who caused such a stir when he was permitted to join a Presbyterian Church, although he was a self proclaimed atheist. His article about joining the church can be found at http://uts.cc.utexas.edu/%7Erjensen/freelance/whyiamachristian.htm
When I spoke to Sister Digna she said she had hopes that his exposure to the Catholic Church would benefit him. She said she got the impression he was a seeker. Since I know that prayer can soften the hardest of hearts I will pray for this man and I hope you will too. Then we can all rejoice if he truly comes to God.
