STEVE Irwin had embarrassed millions of Australians, Germaine Greer said last night.
And those who had mourned him with their tributes at the Irwin family's Australia Zoo in what the British had labelled "a Princess Diana moment" were idiots, she said.
British-based Greer wrote in The Guardian newspaper after Irwin's death that the animal world had taken revenge on "self-deluded animal tormentor Steve Irwin".
Last night, she went even further.
She told Channel 9's A Current Affair she did not understand Australians' feelings of loss for Irwin.
She said he had exploited animals by telling the world how dangerous they were and then treating them disrespectfully.
"I find the whole Steve Irwin phenomenon (embarrassing) -- and I'm not the only person who did," Greer said.
But when pushed, she was unable to name anyone who had publicly agreed with her.
She rejected claims her sentiments were "un-Australian".
"I don't care what I'm being called," Greer said.
"I just hope I'm out of touch with what idiots are thinking."

I have a softcover copy of "The Best of LIFE", which is a compilation of many famous and noteworthy photographs from thoughout the history of LIFE magazine. It was published in 1973.
In the book on page 97, there is a picture of Germaine Greer and some long-haired guy who looks mightily wasted. They're looking at something other than the camera and laughing. The photo caption reads "Ms. Germaine Greer and chum watch her taped TV interview."
I have no idea who she is or what the TV interview was about. I know nothing about her other than that photo and have not heard of her since.
I do know, however, that in that pic, she's sitting down and wearing a tank top and short cutoffs. Her left knee is up and her "chum" is lying back against her as she leans back against the headboard of a bed. I hate to say it, but she's effin' hot in that photo.
I love animals too, but I DON'T play patty cake or tag or tease or be so stupid.
I have more respect for those things that can KILL!

Baloney. He had the utmost respect for all animals. He just wasn't afraid of them.
That said, it wasn't a ~dangerous~ animal that killed him. It was a stingray - which he may never have known was even there when it got him.
What is the reason for this? I mean, why is she even interjecting her stupid self in this man's death and the world mourning him anyway?

I read the mindles drivel this pathetic troll wrote in the Australia paper yesterday and sent an email to the editors informing them of just disgusted and appalled "normal" people are by her total lack of class, and the stupidity of her claims.

Because she's an attention whore. Ms. Greer, Gloria Steinem, and Jane Fonda were all good looking when they were younger. For the most part, they used their sex appeal to push their feminist viewpoints, because most men will put up with a lot of cr@p if the woman is attractive. They're older now, and resent the fact that no one cares what they think, not that many people ever did. So, they try to be outrageous. If nobody looks at their legs anymore, maybe they'll pay attention if they say enough outrageous things.
Anyone who has lived in an area where stingrays live are taught at a very early age to walk very carefully in the waters and avoid them! One mis-step and you will have a barb through your leg - and they are slightly poisonous and do cause bad infections.
I don't fear them because I respect and acknowledge their power and strengths in their domain. You live longer that way.
