NEW YORK (MarketWatch) - "I am very happy to be with you tonight."

With those un-momentous words Tuesday night, Katie Couric, 49, was off and running as the new anchor of "The CBS Evening News." At last the hype was over and the former star of NBC's "Today" show would have an opportunity to prove herself as a serious evening-newscaster.

I sure did a lot of formating for nothing! When did you start requiring excerpting MarketWatch.com and why is the autoexcerpt so drastic? That's hardly even an excerpt!!!

You should be able to manually excerpt sites that require it to get at least 300 words of the text of the article. Has auto excerpt become so drastic that this is all you get?

You could always count the words and do your own excerpting. Up to 300 words allowed.

CBS played down her journalistic credibility (for some reason).

She's a so-called "journalist"? I thought she was just a talking head who read stuff off the teleprompter.

Really, I mean what kind of intellengence does it take to look at a camera and read lines from a little tv in front of you? There is something about her that does not set very well with me, anyway I watch Fox news.

You watched it?!?!?

The thing is, whereas this type of article would have gotten a network news reporter fired, much less the anchor for the evening news, I'm sure it will be waived off as sour grapes or something similar and they'll go on with the show.

And, umm, third place? I'm pretty sure that the Daily Show on Comedy Central pulls down more viewers than the CBS Evening News.

Jon, you don't understand. You were ready to throw up because you are a GUY. You aren't who they are looking to attract. As a guy, you want your news with, well, news. Katie's audience wants their news leavened with cute and cuddly and "nobody's wrong" (except those mean, evil Republicans and those awful, judgemental Christians).

They want beaming Katie in between the ads for tampons and conditioners and cleansers. They might even expect The Perkster to giggle at least once per show.

You, Jon, aren't Kattie's target audience because you have two things that disqualify you - a dick and a brain.

Yo, Texan, some of us w/o dicks still have brains and have no intention of watching Couric, ever. She's no journalist and if I want information I sure don't go to the MSM for it.
