TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Katherine Harris won the Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat.
Here's your choices Dave:
How would you choose?
This was my impression and why I'm assuming that she was the most conservative candidate.
It's painfully apparent from the posts of many of her detractors here on FR that those demented perceptions have infected many here, as well.
Her biography lists her educational background as: Rep. Harris earned a Masters Degree from Harvard University with a specialization in international trade and negotiations, and a Bachelors Degree in history from Agnes Scott College. She studied abroad at the University of Madrid and at LAbri outside Geneva, Switzerland. She obviously is no dummy!
>>>Her beyond terrible poll numbers against Nelson. Is this a trick question?<<<
You mean, the poll numbers reflected by her terrible treatment by the coalition of the country-club republicans and the democrats, right?
Yes, I do consider her attractive. But that's just part of the reason why I support her. I support her because she's a solid conservative Republican.
but point out she's a fundamentalist wingnut who no more chance of winning than Alan Keyes and you folks scream bloody murder.
You obviously have no background information about Harris. The woman has been elected to various state positions before becoming a Congresswoman and she held some high-level posts in the private sector too. Keyes have never been elected to ZILCH. The comparison is so specious it's laughable. Go pollute some other thread. I don't care for your condescending, negative opinion of Harris that's been programmed into you by the liberal media.
Do you think that maybe a few people that didnt vote in the primary will vote in the general election. I think so.
The reason they are against Harris is the stand she took on the Bush = Gore race. I guess Republicans including Jeb Bush would have supported her run against Nelson if she had just had the good sense to support Al Gore for president.
Both the Democrats and the Republicans would have loved her.
The lesson for Republicans is always look out for number one. The bushes are full of people who want loyalty but don't want to give any back.
I remember the week before the NY gubernatorial election of 1994 when George Pataki was down 11 points to the unbeatable Mario Cuomo. He couldn't win.
I believe Jeb could support her and make a net gain for her candidacy.
I strongly suspect that there are well founded fears that if President Bush came out in support, there would be a huge net loss of support for her, and that is why he is likely to wish her well, and that's it. She certainly would be a Senate supporter for his positions, for the most part.
She really doesn't have to have his explicit support and campaigning, though.
Amen to that.
Well, you can enjoy the moment, or you can look for a way to disrupt because of it. Which did you choose?
"Try this, in the general election, more than just crazy fundementalist wingnuts have the opportunity to vote. If you think the nut cases who voted for Harris are representative of Florida voters overall, your nuts. During the primary something like 10-20% of registered Republicans vote. So only a vocal minority. Add in independents and a few conservative Dems and you have a potential victory. Having Harris as the candidate will drive away all but those nuts who voted for her in the primary while motivating the Dems to come out in drove because "she stole the 2000 election"."
I might accept this train of logic if she had won a close race of a few percentage points, a la Ned Lamont.
But she had 20% more than here closest competition. Which basically closed the case in my book. She may not beat Nelson, but the idea that any of her competitors tonight would do better than her is delusional.
Need I remind everybody that this is a woman who said with a straight face that only Christians deserve to get elected? I guess she forgot about Norm Coleman.
BTTT!
That was a somewhat "extreme" reply although I believe there's probably some validity to it!
She won just 50% of the most conservative Christian voters in the state. As many Republicans voted against her as for her. She ran far behind Crist in his race.
How many of the other 50% of Republicans that voted do you think are going to find a good reason to stand in line to vote for Harris. What about the 80 or 85% of voters who didnt participate in the primary. The press is treating her as a cartoon because she is constantly feeding them with material. Like Alan Keyes she would do better to file her papers and then disappear until after the election. Every time she opens her mouth her appeal declines.
Ahh, it's all so black & white isn't it? I'm probably a "socialist-lib who belongs on DU"!
Well said BTTT:) Thanx!
