Wall Street Journal Online ^ | September 5, 2006 | Monica Langley

Ford Motor Co., in a surprise move, reached outside the auto industry to name senior Boeing Co. executive Alan Mulally as its new chief executive officer.

Current CEO William Clay Ford Jr. will remain chairman of the auto maker.

Mr. Mulally, 61 years old, a Boeing executive vice president who heads its important commercial airplanes division, will take the Ford president and CEO post immediately as the struggling auto maker prepares a vast restructuring of its unprofitable North American business.

"Clearly, the challenges Boeing faced in recent years have many parallels to our own," Mr. Ford said in a statement.

Maybe this is a sign that Ford finally intends to stand up to the UAW.

Good. Maybe now they can get back to selling cars instead of funding homo-marriage efforts and p!ssing off every God-fearing person in the country.

I doubt very seriously this news has anything to do with your assertion.

The real reason Boeing moved to Chicago - closer to Detroit?

Ford and the Directors have been following up their recent announcements that they would be taking action.

Wow, he's got some hoops to jump through! But he shouldn't have any problems after all the layoffs Ford did.

Cool! Now finally America can have the flying cars we've been demanding for the past 50 years!

Think again. There are many people sick of corporations using their profits to push their social agendas.

That's hardly Ford's biggest problem. Maybe to you, it is, but it's not the reason Ford's in trouble.

"Maybe this is a sign that Ford finally intends to stand up to the UAW."

Sales volume at Ford and GM down, despite deep discounts.

It is about quality, design, features, etc.

The repeated union issue misses the main thing--how well do the vehicles compete?

When you're having trouble selling your product, it's idiocy to go and p!ss off a sizable chunk of your customer base. I'm a Ford owner and (sadly) shareholder. I will NEVER buy another Ford product until they stop funding the butt-sex agenda. NEVER.

I also have a bad habit of telling people about it. And I'm not alone.

Granted, they have other major problems as well. But this wound was completely self-inflicted and stupid.

The best designs in the world won't sell long if the people assembling them are lazy, sloppy UAW scuts - and that's what happened to the Ford Contour.

Boeing totally screwed up in not naming Mulally as CEO.

I'm surprised he stayed this long after getting knifed in the back.

I guess you like GM better, then. Well...read this, then check the link:

General Motors (part owner of Subaru) this fall held its Out on the Road event, the first-ever automotive program specifically designed for the gay press. GM invited gay media reps to San Francisco to showcase its cars and show that "GM is formally acknowledging the value and power of gay consumers," according to the event's invitation. GM scheduled appearances by Queer Eye food guy Ted Allen and actor Antonio Sabato Jr. as well as a display of classic GM cars.

GM also sponsors such gatherings as the annual conference of Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays and Phoenix's Out and Equal, says Adam Bernard, a manager in product planning at GM. "We have to go beyond advertising," says Bernard, who is openly gay. "We have to be involved in the community itself. It's about our products, but it's also about our culture. It's about letting people know that GM is more than just a big, faceless company; it's about giving back to the community."
