Feminist Greer slams Steve's antics
By Fiona Hudson in London
September 06, 2006 01:00am Article from: The Daily Telegraph
AS glowing tributes and praise for Steve Irwin filled newspapers and television screens around the world, fellow Australian Germaine Greer launched a distasteful tirade on the much-loved Crocodile Hunter yesterday.
Most London papers carried sympathetic news articles, features, columns and obituaries mirroring the disbelief felt in Australia.
But Greer launched a scathing attack on Irwin, declaring "the animal world has finally taken its revenge".
In her column in The Guardian newspaper, Greer said the wildlife warrior displayed the "sort of self-delusion it takes to be a real Aussie larrikin".
"There was no habitat, no matter how fragile or finely balanced, that Irwin hesitated to barge into," she wrote. "Every creature he brandished at the camera was in distress."

Kudos to Ms. Bailey!
Are you talking about the guy that got killed/eaten by a bear?
I don't think that's a good comparison.
Steve Irwin was constantly reminding people of the danger of wild animals and how to approach, and never forgot who was man and who was beast.
The bear guy blurred the lines in traditional envirowacko fashion and seemed to imagine himself as kindred or friend to the bears.
I knew it! The animal kingdom had a bounty out on him. "Hey, Tom the Stingray, we'll make it worth your while to sting this guy." /sarcasm
We need to get that b out of our habitat. Every creature she brandishes herself at is in distress!
My oldest got his feet wet with nature studies by watching the Kratt Brothers. But, he really took to it because of Steve Irwin.
That's the guy.

Good point. There was that difference. The reason I brought Treadwell up is because I don't know whether Steve might have done something careless or foolish on his last day. I hope not. We'll know more about the details later, I guess.
Yeah, horrible things come to my mind starting with a word that has F as the precurser!
Let me guess, she's single, wait, make that divorced. I imagine a man would knaw off any body part he needed to in order to escape her.
Feminist icon Germaine Greer expects to be branded a paedophile after writing a new book challenging conventional views on child pornography.
Greer, 63, says The Boy, which looks at male children in Western art, is about reclaiming the right of women to enjoy the beauty of boys.
"Everyone thinks the only people who like looking at pictures of boys - and I mean boys, not men - are gay men but that's not true. I, for one, love looking at them," Greer told British newspaper the Daily Express.
"I'll be called a paedophile after this."
Greer, who set the tone of gender politics in the 1970s with The Female Eunuch and went on to attack "lipstick lesbians" and fainthearted feminists in later works, expects The Boy to create controversy.
"It's going to get me in a lot of trouble," she said.
"I just can't let it go. Working on it has been the best fun in the world, because it is a book of pictures of ravishing boys.
"I'd like to reclaim for women the right to appreciate the short-lived beauty of boys - real boys, not simpering 30-year-olds with shaved chests.
"The snag is that everywhere I turn I find new pictures of outrageously lovely boys and it's too late to get them into the book but I keep downloading them, scanning them and printing them, just in case and just for fun."
There is no immediate publication date. AAP
Greer is just another bitter crone who has outlived her usefulness.
Best to take your own advice, dear, and allow my brood more room.
What a callous way of trying to get notoriety!
I would love to say F U to her,but I am afraid she may call me out on it![Shiver]
She's jealous, like so many other feminists, of a happy man with a close family who successfully did what he loved and was liked and respected around the world, where she is a bitter, unhappy, unfulfilled nag.
I think you're safe, it sounds like you are too old for her. ;)

What? Is she really a Queen in drag and no one knew?
I can't speak for women in the main, but I can speak for myself as one truly grounded, very tough, and darn gorgeous in my younger days: Women like men, not boys. Women like masculine faces with planes and angles, beard shadows, defined musculature and even some nice padding on a good-sized frame.
Gerard Butler, Russell Crowe, and even Steve Irwin aren't popular because they resemble eunuchs or adolescents.
They look like men. Only some embittered snarky old male-basher, afraid of what men really are and should be could think an unformed child is ravishing.
Gods!! And to think these intellectual vacuums are still around!
Sounds like Steve had one wild animal he had'nt tangled with yet.. the Nasty Old Grim Greer...
I must be out of touch...who the hell is she???? Another ignorant B....!
