Good point. There was that difference. The reason I brought Treadwell up is because I don't know whether Steve might have done something careless or foolish on his last day. I hope not. We'll know more about the details later, I guess.
I've not read a whole lot about it but my daughter told me this evening that they surmise the ray may have felt cornered because Steve was above him and the cameraman below. While I am sure that Steve was aware at all times about his position with regards whatever animal he was around- he may not have taken into consideration the position of the cameraman. I say this because he was much more used to a flat 2-dimensional area of movement and the 3-d underwater world is a whole 'nuther ballgame which he was probably not as comfortable in.
