Are you talking about the guy that got killed/eaten by a bear?

That's the guy.

I don't think that's a good comparison.
Steve Irwin was constantly reminding people of the danger of wild animals and how to approach, and never forgot who was man and who was beast.
The bear guy blurred the lines in traditional envirowacko fashion and seemed to imagine himself as kindred or friend to the bears.

Good point. There was that difference. The reason I brought Treadwell up is because I don't know whether Steve might have done something careless or foolish on his last day. I hope not. We'll know more about the details later, I guess.

I've not read a whole lot about it but my daughter told me this evening that they surmise the ray may have felt cornered because Steve was above him and the cameraman below. While I am sure that Steve was aware at all times about his position with regards whatever animal he was around- he may not have taken into consideration the position of the cameraman. I say this because he was much more used to a flat 2-dimensional area of movement and the 3-d underwater world is a whole 'nuther ballgame which he was probably not as comfortable in.
