Shot placement is everything. ....and nice tight grouping. Makes for neater autopsies.......

I suspect that the 9mm was loaded with FMJ ammo. A 9mm with appropriate expanding ammunition will do the job.

During the Northfield Raid in 1876, Cole Younger was shot seven times, including once in the face, and he lived for another forty years.
Good thing for him that the residents used 9mms.

I rely on the .45 1911 as well. The only problem with it is the limited capacity of 7 + 1.
Yup. You need to carry two. It does wonders for the rate of fire also.

Guns are like sex and I'm not saying I wouldn't take one.

Most of his wounds came from .44-caliber pistols and rifles.
In one of Louis L'Amour's books, he gives historical records of several men who survived being shot more than a dozen times. One man survived being hit seventeen times.

Yeah! Like the twin gold-plated ones that Cage carried in Face/Off!

Of course, by today's standards, those old .44s sometimes had laughably slow velocities. They certainly weren't modern, high pressure brass-cased rounds.
In modern times, the infamous 1986 Miami firefight between Matix, Platt, and the FBI comes to mind. Matix was hit with repeated head shots and body shots and he almost got away.

Every home owner should have a "drop" piece around the house for just this occasion.

Oh, I 've got no problem with the turn of events.
Indeed, I welcome it.
I'm just commenting on the believabilty of a burgler setting his piece down on a sofa while he sneaks around in an occupied dwelling, at 5 AM,. Either he is one stupid burgler (quite possible), or the gun did not enter the dwelling on his person, (also quite possible, and more believable).

Note to self: Don't bring your own gun to a gunfight.
And here the anti-gun twits are always warning homeowners that they might get shot w/ their own gun. Oops.
going hot, And soooo. I'd still let him off. :) Story works for me. :) As well as, zeebee's story too. :)
TYVets, Well, we don't really know yet if this has a "good ending" b/c the perp might live. :\
Delta 21, Good idea on the "drop piece". But one must remember in this time of forensics to make sure your prints are NOT on the bullets you put in the weapon. Sure you can shoot the intruder w/ the "drop piece" & claim it was the intruder's but if your prints are on the ammo/clip - YOUR DONE.

Trying to rob somebody and having them shoot you because you set your pistol down and they found it before you got back to it...that pretty much defines "needed killin'".
