BURLINGTON, Ky. - Life is cramped at the Condit household. Dale and Sharon Condit and their two young sons need more room but can't seem to sell their current home on the market now for three months.
Full politics coverage
In a year when politics is being roiled by angry debates over the Iraq war and immigration, it might seem odd to imagine the midterm elections being waged over square footage and closet space. But these are parts of a lifestyle that Sharon Condit, a deputy clerk of court, describes as dogged by a sense of limits: "We have dreams of this future, but we can't get it right now."
This gap in expectations, a source of anxiety for the Condits, is a source of opportunity for former representative Ken Lucas, a Democrat who is trying to win back Kentucky's 4th Congressional District from incumbent Republican Geoff Davis. Attitudes about the economy "People are being pushed up against a ceiling," said Lucas. "They feel trapped" are part of the reason the Democrat is in a neck-and-neck race in a district President Bush won by 27 percentage points in 2004.

Oh God. I can't stop weeping. They have less home than they want. That makes them "homeless". We have to help them.
Exactly how is it the government's fault that she can't sell her house?
The MSM just makes this stuff up; they are trying to set the stage for another voter fraud bru-ha-ha when the dems don't take over. There are more home owners now than ever and interest rates are still very low, and indeed are coming down again. This is just more msnbc propaganda and well....pure bs.
I'd love to see what it looks like.
If she wants the government to be more involved there's always the whole eminent domain thing.
WHen the economy is down, or is percieved to be down the party in power usually pays at teh polls. It has been this way for decades in this country. They do not ask why.
Three whole months. Oh the humanity.
I don't know.... but it might be easier for her to sell her house if the fed hadn't raised the interest rates repeatedly for the past couple of years.
It's not the government's fault that they can't sell their house. If they really want to sell it, how about dropping the price? It's a buyer's market now in most of the nation.
They want to make progress financially? They should change they way they save, i.e., save more money and invest for the long-term.
If they want to keep on getting what they're getting, the Condits should keep on doing what they're doing.
So is that why you post doom and gloom threads?
The woman is an idiot. If she had been paying attention she would have taken care of her housing needs when the market was booming and ever realestate agent in the country was buying little houses and flipping them for a better price.
The article doesn't say what they paid for the house or what they're asking for it, but it's certainly possible they're trying to sell it for five times what they paid for it and if they'd drop the asking price to four times what they paid, they'd sell it tomorrow.
She may not care whose fault it really is, she may just not vote for the party in power. When people think the economy is going south they tend to not lend their support to the party in power.
It's not the government's fault; it's BUSH'S fault.
more likely they've got an "ARM" and they're just trying to get out from under it :)
This woman probably wakes up at night and shouts out that only if Ken Lucas could return to Congress, things would improve in her household!
Agreed, but she still votes.
4 of us grew up in the 50s in a 3 bedroom bungalow with 1 bathroom.
I never realized what a deprived life I had led.

Here's a crazy thought. Need more room, can't sell the dump you're in 'cause it is over-priced, the local market is in a downturn, whatever... Why not a home equity loan, and add-on? You'd pay more for a bigger place anyway (unless you're going to the wrong side of the tracks).
