You just gave me an idea. I'm going to drive into town now and find the sign wavers...and join them.

That's being very selfish ....

One man...one vote....how is that selfish? In fact the very act of voting is an expression of self interest. We group together with other individuals who express similar values to achieve these values translated as political outcomes. We call these groups political parties. To follow your ideology as expressed in your post would present a political viewpoint of collectivism also known as Globalism or the much vaunted New World Order. Collectivism is a tool of the liberal. Individualism and self interest is a mainstay of Republican ideology and the free market. You would have everybody be equal, presumably out of some skewed vision that life must be...and can be made to be..."fair." I submit that free men aren't equal...and equal men aren't free....and life isn't fair.

When I vote, I think about the party as a whole...not my individual likes and dislikes.

Then isn't it fair to say that your greatest "individual like" is the party itself? Voting for a candidate solely because of their stance on gun control, fiscal responsibility or abortion is really not much different from voting solely because of the party.

So you are a collectivist.

I see myself more as a conservative than a lockstep Republican. I won't hesitate to disagree with my own party, especially when they seem to be converging on ideology spouted by the Democratic party...like big government and high taxes....Pre-911 I used to write snail mail to my Congressmen. If I was discussing tax hikes I would enclose a small tea bag to remind them of that Party...held in Boston so long ago. Can't do that anymore. Folks might think it was a chemical agent or something. I vote Republican and register as such primarily because the Party Platform goes along with those values I hold dear. Thus far.

Tell me, if a Republican were to run who is contrary to all the issues you hold as sancrosanct, would you cast your vote for that candidate...blindly? Conversely, if a Democrat candidate appeared that did espouse all of your values as his own...and had the record to back it...would you vote for the Dem or the 'Pubbie? I for example would vote Zell Miller for President in a moment. He is a Democrat. That does not represent for me a shift in my loyalty, it represents the fact that Zell Miller represents my values and ideals as an American.

Well..it points out that I vote with EVERYONE with my PARTY's CONSCIENCE in mind....not my own personal views. The candidates I vote for, don't always agree with me...but I will vote for them anyway for the good of the party. One or two issues isn't going to make me vote differently.

"Was not aware of the Crist stance on offshore drilling or amnesty. Still, the die is cast (for me--already voted)."

Well, you can always tell your friends.

btw, I'm from NYS but want to see the most conservative governor possible in each state. It's so important for the country.

A Pubbie.

"But let's face it...he has changed for each election.....I don't think I trust him.....but will vote for him over that teacher tax lovin Crist who will no doubt bring us a state tax."

I have a confession to make. I was once rather liberal, but have evolved into a strong conservative. I believe that's what happened to Gallagher.

Then your primary personal view IS the party. That's no more of less selfish than voting for any other single issue.

And it's made in order to further your primary goal, which is to keep the GOP in power. That's no different than holding as your primary goal the elimination of gun control or abortion. You're acting in what you perceive to be your own self-interest, just as others are doing.

We just got back from waving signs with Katherine Harris this afternoon. Overwhelmingly positive feedback with thumbs up and horns honking! A great time was had by all!

Yes, I'm aware of that. But it doesn't make your decision to always vote for the GOP candidate any more or less selfish than anyone else's decision. Ultimately you vote in your self-interest, which just happens to be seeing your party remain in power.

Rawlings says 'Vote for Brian McBride'.

Is he the one who marched with the pro-amnesty 'Immigrants United for Freedom' or was that his twin...Will?

Neither one got my vote....I voted for the tried & true conservative with a proven record on the issues....Katherine Harris!

I see the RINO's are out in force today...Well I voted for the only conservative in the Senate race...Katherine Harris.....Not someone who marches with illegals under a flag of Mexico with a group attached to ANSWER...Some individuals here idea of a conservative..
At the end of the night this argument will be settled with Katherine's win...Probably not as some are not interest in a conservative winning...
Tom Gallagher for Gov
