I did read it and I appreciate it.
I think because they thought Nelson in this negative macro environment, was basically a very long shot to beat. Thus, those holding some other office, were not willing to sacrifice it, for a very long shot. I don't anyone was intimidated by Harris per se, certainly not by the time of the filing deadline.
I didn't specifically say Jeb was scared off, since he could've crushed her like a bug. I was talking about other candidates that might've chosen to get in, such as Foley, Bense, et al.
Truer words were never said.
It appears my graphic made the Admin Mod unhappy. A shame; I thought it was funny. I really expected people here to have a bit thicker skin.
Ya, I understand you post better now, than the first time I read it.
A victory is a victory is a victory. This ain't horseshoes or hand grenades.
If a candidate is blackmailable it is better that this be discovered before the Dems use it in the general election.
The first person I'll ping it to is JulieRNR21 because of her unfailing graciousness, then to other KH supporters.
But if Harris does lose by a landslide, will you do the same?
The Dem, Christine Jennings, is both competent and well funded. She will be a far better campaigner than the ultra-liberal, Jan Schneider was during the past two elections. Buchanan brings a lot of baggage from past business dealings that she will, with her willing accomplices at the Herald-Tribune, bring to light at every opportunity. Buchanan has one potentially damaging issue regarding his past business dealings that has been sealed by the court until after the primary. It must be something substantial or Vern wouldn't have fought so hard to keep it suppressed.
The district is still solidly republican and Vern survived some serious scrutiny and scathing attacks in the primary. I think he's well prepared for what they'll throw at him in the general election. He certainly has the financial resources to overcome most anything.
After watching Scarbough's MSNBC show, I'm glad he didn't run. Frankly, I'd vote for Katherine Harris over Scarbough.
Exactly so. Well said.
Alaska isn't a legitimate comparison because the dynamics are completely different. Lisa Murkowski's win was impressive given the dynamics, and she was also the incumbent (and incumbent Senators are VERY hard to defeat). KH ain't the incumbent.
As for Martinez being "inept", he still won. Bill McCollum would've gone down in a repeat, and KH would've just had the same self-destructive abortion of a candidacy 2 years earlier. Or would you have preferred 2 rodent Senators today from FL instead of one ?
Nobody I know predicted that, with any track record or predicting anything with any credibility. Yes, there was some chat, that the situation was fluid. I thought that myself, until I realized that Harris had annealed to her the bulk of the conservative religious fundamentalist base below the radar screen (which popped out when she was "caught" at it), which meant she had about a 40% or so hard vote, in a GOP primary.
Bravo, huh ? It won't get us the seat in November. Sadly, I've seen no particular evidence the lady's most diehard supporters want to win in November. They just wanted a coronation. They got it, and that's all they're ever going to get.
What I prefer is a Conservative Republican nominee who isn't at 20% in the general polls in a REPUBLICAN state. Excuse me if that is selfish.
Why would a guy getting a big paycheck, who partied with Condit, doing no doubt very entertaining things (well maybe I am mixing him up with Kasich, or maybe both of them were there), give it all up for a long shot, in a rough GOP year, when he has dumped on team Bush et al., to gain ratings and viewer interest?
You sir, like too many others here, have allowed six year's of nonstop leftmedia agitprop and character assassination towards Ms. Harris brainwash your thinking. A shame. If only you were stronger than that.
Ms. Harris is no God, but she is now our candidate. And she will beat Nelson later this year, as usual, against all so-called "conventional wisdom" and odds. She has never lost a single race she has ever run for, and this one will be no exception.
Cheers.
Christine Jennings is a former banker and was a registered Republican when she lived in Manatee county. She'll be a more formidable candidate than Jan Schneider was. She'll have big DNC money behind her and the big donkeys will campaign for her.
Vern Buchanan will probably continue to be attacked for his past business dealings by the local NY Times owned SH-T newspaper. He's got millions he can pour into the race like he did in the primary. He obviously has the conservative vote but now he's got to attract some independents to beat Jennings.
All the Republicans in the 13th district will need to shake hands now and begin to work together for victory in November after this bitterly fought primary.
