Baby Left in Casino Garage, Parents Arrested

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - September 3, 2006 - A Camden County couple accused of leaving their 3-week old son alone in a car in a casino parking garage for several hours this weekend were charged with child abuse and child endangerment.

Security personnel at Caesars Atlantic City Hotel Casino found the child just before 1 a.m. Saturday after some patrons reported seeing him in the back seat of the car. They notified city police, and officers Andrea Perry and Shelley Kellerman were soon able to get the child out of the vehicle.

The officers remained at the scene until the child's parents - Jennifer Drake, 19, and Andrew Delano, 21, both of Clementon - returned to the car around 4 a.m. They were arrested and taken to the Atlantic County Jail, but it was not clear whether they remained in custody early Sunday.

The child, whose name was not released, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, where he was treated and released. He was turned over to the state Division of Youth and Family Services and remained in the agency's custody early Sunday.

A quote from the movie "Parenthood" comes to mind:

"You know, Mrs. Buckman, you need a license to buy a dog, to drive a car - hell, you even need a license to catch a fish. But they'll let any butt-reaming @sshole be a father.

The kid was fine, so its no big deal. The important thing is that people were contributing to the Casinos bottom line. /s

I saw the report on TV and they had reporters at the family home. For once, neighbors actually didn't call them nice quite people. The one neighbor didn't seemed surprised and said they have always caused trouble. The family even had a "No Comment" sign taped to the door for the reporters, one of whom actually was yelling through open windows trying to get an interview with family members.

"The Family" was caught red handed being low lifes. Now they want their privacy, big whoop, if the kid was kidnapped they would be out mugging for the cameras. They should go out and show the world how smart they really are, by talking to the media.

What happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas.

What happens in Atlantic City ends up on the internet.

I was in the Trump Tower Casino in Atlantic City a few years ago. I saw an Asian woman pushing a stroller with a very small child in it at two o'clock in the morning.

My husband & I went to the track (Church Hill Downs) earlier this summer. There were several people with tiny babies in strollers. It wasn't two o' clock in the morning, but, by noon, the temp. was at least 90+ degrees and was almost unbearable by later that afternoon.

My husband and I go Atlantic City about 4 times a year. I am always shocked by the number of kids hanging out at 1, 2, even 3 in the morning.

I don't think you can become a father that way... :-)

I wonder if she gets taxpayer funded benefits as a single mother.
