Sweden: Green snub eco cars (Can you smell the....hypocrisy?)

Greens snub eco-cars

Sweden has an international reputation for being environmentally progressive. With two weeks to go before elections, it turns our only a very small percentage of those politicians registered at Parliament actually have an eco-friendly car – and Green Party politicians are most likely to have a polluting old car.

Although ethanol, biogas and hybrids have been big sellers in Sweden the past few years, of the party leaders only Centre leader Maud Olofsson owns one.

Many cars produced in the 80s and before lacked catalytic converters, a small device used to reduce the toxicity of emissions from internal combustion engines. Through a chemical reaction, toxic byproducts from the engine are converted into less harmful emissions.

Even though politicians own so few eco-friendly cars, many have really old, toxin-spewing vehicles.

In the country’s car parks, it is estimated 7 percent of cars lack catalytic converters. Politicians in the Green Party and the Centre Party — both of which claim a strong belief in a health environment — have an exceptionally higher number of dirty cars, reported TT.

Some 22 percent of Green Party cars and 18 percent of Centre Party cars lack catalytic converters.

If the boundary was set at 1994, the year converters became much more efficient, one half of Green Party cars pass wouldn’t pass the test. About 42 percent of Left Party members drive cars made pre-94, and do 38 percent of Centre Party members.

Isn't this just typical of left wing hypocrites everywhere? "Everyone else has to change and make sacrifices, except me, because I've got special needs".

In this case it's about people who drive around in their beloved old, reliable, polluting car telling us about the perils of greenhouse gases.

Fools.

I've often made the observation that the lefties and greenies who complain about "gas-guzzling" SUVs and shout abuse at people who own large vehicles quite often drive the worst-condition, most-undermaintained, most-overstickered, and least-reliable heaps ever made.

The most recent example were the two nutcases in the Geo Metro I encountered the other day. I was sitting at a light in my nineteen year old XJ6, and these moonbats roll up next to me and start haranguing me about how my old 'gas guzzler' is 'destroying the earth' and how I'm being selfish. Meanwhile, their three cylinder engine is clearly running on *two*, the exhaust clearly resembles swiss cheese more than a contiguous tube, the idle air controller is going nuts because of a huge vacuum leak and one or more of the engine accessories has a bearing that's screaming to be replaced.

Having encountered idiots like this before, I rolled the windows back up and closed the sunroof. Good thing, too; the light turned green and the bestickered-to-the-point-of-no-rearward-visibility Metro lurched forward and gave a very good impression of a mosquito truck or travelling brush fire (massive cloud of oil/fuel smoke). I've seen this same scenario over and over, though usually the moonbats have some FWD GM or Ford POS from the 80s, not a Metro.

Just like our own RFK Jr. who goes around the country in a private jet to harangue the rest of us about our energy selfish lifestyles. Ditto for Al Gore.

I think we need to realize the goals of the 'green' party are not environmental but political. The pretend to use the environment cause to 'save the earth' but what they are really trying to do it take away the industrial might of the West and, therefore, capitalism.

Nice, a smog-o-matic being driven by a greenie. Just shows how little they know of the reality of emission reduction.
